Risk Manager, High Severity Intelligence

As the Risk Manager for High Severity Intelligence (HSI), you will provide world-class empathetic experiences to support internal and external stakeholders after an incident. In this role, you will deep dive incidents, driving accountability across the organization and generating insights that will mitigate risk and improve safety programs.

This is a large-scale, rapid response coordination program designed to ensure timely and thorough management of the highest severity incidents that affect any of our Last Mile transporters, customers, or community members. We investigate and handle the most sensitive of tragedies with professionalism and care, and coordinate the process of response through thoughtful communication with all involved, including the most senior leaders at Amazon. You will be responsible for the experience of our customers and community members during some of the hardest moments of their lives.

A successful candidate will possess high emotional intelligence and the capacity to provide support in emotionally charged situations. This includes the ability to remain composed, empathetic, and supportive when dealing with individuals affected by a tragic incident. The candidate should embrace ambiguity and drive clarity across teams and organizations. This role requires strong relationship building skills and sound business judgment. They will be an excellent communicator, verbally and through writing, enabling them to work successfully with diverse audiences. Balancing time between projects and rapid response is a critical component for success in the position. Maturity, high judgment, negotiation skills, ability to influence, analytic skills, and leadership are essential to success in this role.

This role participates in on-call rotation. Experience in crisis management, incident response, or a related field is preferred.

Key job responsibilities
- Participate in on-call rotation, leading incident response activities within the region,
- Own incident investigation end-to-end, identifying contributing factors and recommending risk mitigations,
- Align with key stakeholders and Legal to ensure incident response and risk mitigation actions meet regulatory and compliance requirements,
- Optimise existing workflows and processes for incident response, identifying improvements to drive team effectiveness in an evolving legal and regulatory landscape,
- Own risk programs, driving execution and measuring outcomes against team goals,
- Measure and track program effectiveness within your workstream, surfacing insights and recommendations to leadership,
- Prepare clear incident reports, COEs, and briefing documentation used by senior leaders,
- Communicate proactively with internal stakeholders, negotiating priorities and clarifying what success looks like.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- High emotional intelligence and the capacity to remain composed, empathetic, and supportive in sensitive and emotionally charged situations,
- Ability to work in ambiguous situations within a defined framework, designing short-term solutions with limited guidance,
- Clear and concise verbal and written communication (e.g., incident reports, COEs, MBR/QBR inputs), with the ability to facilitate dialogue and foster shared understanding,
- Effective time management and the ability to make trade-offs between time, quality, and resources
- Sound judgement on when to act independently versus escalate complex or systemic issues,
- Strong documentation skills and ability to create plans, communicate requirements, and negotiate priorities across teams.

Additional requirements:
- Role requires up to 15% international travel
- Must be able to work flexibly across multiple time zones

Basic Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- Experience in compliance program management, legal, governance, audit, risk/loss prevention, or equivalent
- Experience handling confidential information
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications at an advanced level
- Experience partnering with cross-functional teams to develop and implement standards, policies and programs or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with SQL and Excel
- Experience in program requirements definition, together with data and metrics leveraging to drive improvements
- Professional auditing qualification, or similar risk or compliance credentials
- Experience in crisis management and response or equivalent
- Experience leveraging technology and implementing lean principles / Six Sigma methodologies to drive process improvements or equivalent
