- Analyze and review client accounting records and financial statements as needed for state and local tax purposes

- Ability to work on a wide range of state and local tax issues

Job Description:
Withum is seeking accounting majors graduating in the upcoming academic year to join our State and Local Tax (SALT) team in or Whippany, NJ or New York City offices as part of the November 2026 class. This is a great opportunity to launch your career in public accounting by working alongside experienced tax professionals. This role offers a great opportunity to build foundational tax skills while working on a variety of compliance, research, and planning projects across multiple jurisdictions.
What You’ll Do:
As part of a team supervised by a Manager or Partner, you may
- Prepare a variety of sales and income tax returns
- Register clients with various state agencies
- Research and resolve inquiries from tax jurisdictions and clients
- Be highly responsive to clients and various government tax agencies regarding notices and requests for information
- Apply critical thinking to research nexus, sourcing, and taxability for all jurisdictions in various industries
- Remain current on new tax legislation and tax guidance from states
- Identify, assess, and document the tax implications of any such changes
- Assist clients with defending audits from various states
- Analyze and review client accounting records and financial statements as needed for state and local tax purposes
- Assist clients with all state and local tax issues

What We’re Looking For:
- Graduated or graduating college student pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting
- GPA of 3.0 or higher

- Preferred: 150 credit hours and prior internship experience with a public accounting firm
- Strong analytical, communication and organizational skills
- A collaborative mindset and eagerness to learn and grow
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with tax software is a plus

The compensation for this position ranges from $65,000 to $80,000 based on location. Final offer amounts are based on multiple factors such as the specific role, hiring location, as well as the individual’s skills, experience, and qualifications. In addition to the base compensation, Withum offers a competitive benefits package and bonus program (for eligible roles) based on individual and firm performance.
