School Governor

Are you passionate about making a difference in our school and wider community? We are looking for committed governors to join us.

You do not need to be an expert in schools - what's important is an interest in the welfare of students, along with the time and willingness to get involved. Your skills and experience could make a real impact on the lives of the children we serve.

What Does a Good Governor Need?

✔ A commitment to uphold the mission statement of the school

✔ The ability to attend and contribute in meetings while maintaining confidentiality

✔ The ability to work as part of a team and respect different viewpoints

✔ An understanding that this role does not involve discussing a child related to you (if they attend the school)

✔ A strong commitment to the role and to improving outcomes for pupils

✔ Good interpersonal skills, a willingness to learn, develop new skills, and attend training

✔ The ability to support and challenge the school and contribute to its vision and direction

✔ A willingness to visit the school between meetings to better understand its operations and progress

We have vacancies for both community and parent governors. Applications to become a parent governor can only be accepted from parents or carers who have children registered at the school on the day that nominations close. Applications to become community governors will be considered by the governing body. Please indicate if you are applying to be a parent governor in your personal statement. If there are more nominations than vacancies for the parent governor role, an election may be held by secret ballot on Wednesday 9th September. A Google form will be sent to all parents together with details of the ballot procedure, along with the personal statements of the candidates.

Training is available for all governors and the governing body has a requirement that those new to school governance attend induction training in the first few months of joining. The expectation is to attend around ten meetings a year which will usually take place on Tuesday evenings either online or in school, as well as make a small number of governor visits over the year during the school day.
