SEMH Behaviour Support Assistant

Some young people don’t need someone to manage their behaviour, they need someone who understands what sits underneath it.

This SEMH Behaviour Mentor role is about building trust, creating consistency, and helping students feel safe enough to succeed in education.

Many of the young people you’ll support may have experienced trauma, exclusion, disrupted education, or challenges outside of school. Behaviour can often be a reflection of those experiences.

Your role is to be the calm in the chaos.

As an SEMH Behaviour Mentor, you’ll support students who may struggle with emotional regulation, behaviour, and engagement within school.

You’ll build strong relationships, provide consistent support throughout the day, and help students develop coping strategies, confidence, and positive routines.

You may support students in lessons, during interventions, or in moments where they need time away from the classroom to regulate and reset.

Every day will be different, but every interaction matters.

Who This Role Suits

• Experience supporting SEMH, SEND, or challenging behaviour

• Youth work, mentoring, coaching, or support work experience is beneficial

• Calm, resilient, and emotionally intelligent individuals

• Strong communication and relationship-building skills

• People who can set boundaries while remaining compassionate
