About this role

The Role

We are looking for an exceptional Senior Associate to join our leading Sydney Workplace Relations, Employment & Safety (WRES) team, working closely with Partner Amanda Lyras.

We are looking for someone who genuinely loves employment law - someone who finds the complexity of workplace disputes intellectually stimulating, who thrives on strategic and high-stakes advisory work, and who wants to build and refine their career in this space. If you are looking for a firm that will invest in your progression and development, read on.

Our WRES team represents a blue-chip client base across both private and public sectors, acting in high profile matters across the full breadth of workplace relations and employment law. As a senior member of the team, you will take a lead role in advising on strategic and sensitive employment matters, employee disputes across various Courts and Tribunals (both private and public sector), whistleblowing, workplace investigations, discrimination and harassment, the enforcement of post-employment restraints, employment aspects of corporate transactions WHS, and modern slavery.

This is an exciting time of growth for our team, with opportunities for structured career progression.  In addition to enjoying challenging and rewarding work that keeps your skills sharp, you will be nurtured and supported to build your own profile and practice through dedicated mentorship, leadership development programs and career opportunities.

Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • At least 7 years PQE with deep experience working across a range of employment law and workplace relations matters, gained within a reputable commercial law firm.

  • A track record of excellence - in the quality of your legal work, in the rigour of your thinking and in the outcomes you achieve for clients.

  • The drive and confidence to effectively manage a diverse workload with autonomy, while being a collaborative and generous team member.

  • Proven experience in supervising, mentoring, and investing in the development of junior team members.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a practical and solutions-focused approach.

  • A genuine enthusiasm for employment law - not just as a job, but as a discipline you find interesting.

  • An appetite for business development, including building and deepening client relationships, delivering seminars, publishing thought leadership, and enhancing the firm's profile in the market.

  • A proactive commitment to continuous professional development to expand skills and meet evolving client and industry needs.

The WRES Team

Our WRES team boasts some of Australia's leading workplace lawyers and are the go-to team for large organisations with complex and challenging workplace needs.

We work with clients across the full spectrum of the employment relationship; from engagement through to performance and conduct management, and termination. Our work spans all facets of employment law, industrial relations, discrimination, work health and safety, executive remuneration and diversity.

Our clients include major international and ASX 200 listed companies, governments and private sector organisations. We act on matters that shape workplace law in this country, and we are looking for someone who wants to be part of that.
