What you'll do
- Own and evolve the foundational architecture of safety- and security-critical embedded platform software, spanning the BSP, boot chain, kernel, and operating-system configuration.
- Integrate and adapt vendor BSPs for bespoke hardware, driving initial board bring-up, peripheral initialization, and complex hardware-software integration.
- Design and implement kernel-level components, device drivers, secure-boot chains, hardware roots of trust, and reliable software update and recovery mechanisms.
- Validate and integrate high-bandwidth sensor interfaces (e.g., GMSL, MIPI CSI-2), embedded networking, and CAN protocols to ensure reliable data transport, synchronization, and fault handling.
- Optimize platform software for real-time determinism, reliability, and mission availability under strict system and resource constraints.
- Translate system, safety, and security standards into verifiable, fully traceable platform-software designs and objective evidence across the development lifecycle.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership, set engineering direction, and mentor cross-functional teams across software, hardware, test, and security disciplines.
What they're looking for
- 10+ years of professional experience developing low-level platform software (BSPs, bootloaders, kernels, device drivers) for safety- or security-critical systems in regulated sectors (e.g., defence, aerospace, or marine).
- Strong C and Modern C++ programming skills, supported by production experience with real-time or safety-oriented operating systems like embedded Linux or QNX (including build toolchains like Yocto/Open Embedded or Buildroot).
- Deep understanding of real-time systems concepts (scheduling, IPC, memory management, determinism) and hands-on experience with hardware integration, high-bandwidth sensor interfaces, embedded networking, and CAN.
- Experience with secure boot, trusted execution, hardware roots of trust, TPMs or HSMs, signed updates, rollback and recovery mechanisms.
- Proven ability to debug complex hardware-software integration issues at the platform level, act proactively, and communicate technical trade-offs clearly as a trusted Staff-level engineering authority.
- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Professional fluency in English (must-have)
Nice to have
- German language proficiency is a strong plus.

About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Embedded Software Engineer in Test to shape the testing strategy and infrastructure for safety- and security-critical products in the defence sector.
You will develop and maintain software-in-the-loop (SIL) and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) systems, build automated test tooling, and create objective evidence that embedded products meet their requirements. Working closely with software, hardware and systems engineers, you will help identify defects early, understand system behaviour and improve product quality from development through integration and acceptance.
This is a hands-on role with significant ownership. You will act as a technical point of contact for embedded testing and help establish efficient, repeatable test practices across multidisciplinary product-development teams.
What You’ll Build
- End-to-end verification strategies, test specifications/requirements and test plans, and acceptance criteria tailored for safety- and security-critical defence products.
- Automated SIL and HIL test systems, simulation environments, and test tooling integrated directly into CI pipelines and lab infrastructure.
- Automated component, integration, and system test suites for deeply embedded resource-constrained real-time systems.
- Fault-injection, fuzzing, and stress-testing harnesses designed to uncover system limits, timing edge cases, and unexpected behavior.
- Data-collection, metrics-tracking (e.g., code coverage), and automated reporting toolchains that yield objective, fully traceable verification evidence.
- Collaborative workflows alongside software, hardware, and systems engineers to model, exercise, and analyze products on target hardware and in simulation.
What You Bring
- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Strong hands-on experience in embedded software verification and building SIL/HIL infrastructure within regulated, high-assurance environments (e.g., defence, aerospace, automotive, or marine; preferably Linux-based).
- Strong Python scripting capabilities for test automation, complemented by experience with writing software in C and/or Modern C++, embedded debugging, and hardware/communication protocols (e.g., CAN, network stacks).
- Practical experience with real-time performance and timing analysis, safety/security standards, static analysis, and virtualized targets.
- A proactive, evidence-driven engineering approach with clear technical communication skills, capable of acting as an independent point of contact across multidisciplinary teams.
- Professional fluency in English (must-have); German language proficiency is a strong plus.
Please note: You do not need to meet every single requirement to apply. We welcome motivated candidates who are eager to grow into the role and develop their expertise further.
