Senior Occupational Therapist

Job Purpose

The person appointed to this Senior Occupational Therapist post will work as part of the multi-disciplinary teams delivering a coordinated approach to patients in the Occupational Therapy Inpatient Service. This full-time position is temporary with the flexible possibility to move internally between similar acute specialities.  The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of a complex inpatient caseload including the provision of specialised assessment and treatment interventions. They will also be responsible for carrying out clinical and educational duties as required.  The Senior Occupational Therapist will continue the development and maintain high standards of clinical practice within this area through clinical evaluation, audit opportunities and evidence-based practice.  The Senior Occupational Therapist will contribute to a structured process for their own supervision and that of staff grade occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants and students as required.

 

A panel may be formed from which future permanent, temporary, full time or part time vacancies may be filled.

HSE Dublin North East provides health and social care to North Dublin, Louth, Meath, Monaghan and most areas of Cavan.

 

Occupational Therapy Services Louth Hospitals

The Louth Hospitals Group has an established Occupational Therapy Service, 38.5 WTE staff across three sites (Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda, Cottage Community Hub Drogheda and Louth County Hospital Dundalk).

Louth Hospitals Group Occupational Therapy department provides a wide range of acute, outpatient and rehabilitation services i.e. Medical, Neurology, Care of the Elderly, Frailty, Critical Care, Orthopaedics, Rehabilitation, Stroke, Surgical, Early Support Discharge ESD - Stroke, Trauma, Hand therapy etc

 

Community Healthcare Services are delivered through the HSE and its funded agencies to people in local communities, as close as possible to people’s homes.  Community Healthcare Services focus on keeping you well so that you can continue to live at home or close to home through our health promotion, disease screening, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation programs. You can refer yourself to most Community Healthcare Services or through your GP, public health nurse, community mental health team, etc. Services include - Primary Care, Social Care - Older Persons, Social Care – Disabilities, Mental Health, Health and Wellbeing, Quality, Safety and Service Improvement.

Essential Criteria

Candidates must on the latest date for receiving applications for the above post:

 

Statutory Registration Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc

 

(a) Candidates for appointment must:

 

(i) Be registered on the Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU.

 

Or

 

(ii) Applicants who satisfy the conditions set out in Section 91 of the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005, (see note 1 below*), must submit proof of application for registration with the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU. The acceptable proof is correspondence from the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU confirming their application for registration as a Section 91 applicant.

 

And

 

(iii) Have three years full time (or an aggregate of three years) post qualification clinical experience of which at least one year must be related to acute care and frailty.

 

And

 

(iv) Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.

 

Annual registration

 

(i) Practitioners must maintain annual registration on Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU

 

And

 

(ii) Confirm annual registration with CORU to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC)

 

Age

 

Age restriction shall only apply to a candidate where s/he is not classified as a new entrant (within the meaning of the Public Service Superannuation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2004. A candidate who is not classified as a new entrant must be under 65 years of age on

the first day of the month in which the latest date for receiving completed application forms for the office occurs.

 

Note 1*:

Section 91 candidates are individuals who qualified before the 31st March 2015 and have been engaged in the practice of the profession in the Republic of Ireland for a minimum of 2 years fulltime (or an aggregate of 2 years fulltime), between 31st March 2010 and 30th March 2015.
