Freelance Senior Planner - Highways

Location: Essex / Hybrid
Duration: 6-12 months
Rate: £475.00-£550 - Outside IR35

About the Role

My client is seeking an experienced Freelance Senior Planner to support the successful delivery of major highways and infrastructure projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a planning professional with a strong background in civil engineering, highways, and transportation schemes to join a dynamic project team and contribute to complex, high-profile projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and update detailed project programmes using Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project.

• Produce baseline programmes, look-ahead schedules, and progress updates.

• Monitor project performance against programme milestones and identify potential risks and delays.

• Support tender planning, resource planning, and construction sequencing activities.

• Liaise with project managers, design teams, contractors, and client representatives to ensure programme alignment.

• Assist with claims, change management, and programme impact assessments where necessary.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Senior Planner within the highways, transportation, or civil engineering sector.

• Strong knowledge of highways construction and infrastructure project delivery.

• Proficiency in Primavera P6 is essential; Microsoft Project experience is advantageous.

• Experience working on National Highways, local authority, or major infrastructure schemes is highly desirable.

• Strong understanding of NEC contracts and programme management principles.
