THE OPPORTUNITY – SENIOR PROCESS ENGINEER

Provides high-quality process engineering support ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of Morecambe Hub process systems and equipment.

Location: Barrow-in-Furness

Duration: 2-year contract

Contract Type: PAYE

Day Rate: TBC - For your application to be progressed, please ensure you provide a PAYE day rate banding expectation.  Please note that there is no travel and accommodation allowance provided.

Spirit Energy currently have a non-contractual hybrid working arrangement for all office-based workers. 4 days must be worked in the office with compulsory days being Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The fourth day worked in-office (either Monday or Friday) is of the worker’s choosing but should be in keeping with what is most efficient and effective for their team. The office is open 5 days a week for full time, in-office working if this is the contractor’s preference.  

AND NOW FOR THE TECHNICAL BIT…

In role, you will be required to:

  • Provide process engineering support to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of Morecambe Hub process systems.
  • Monitor and optimise process performance, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, throughput, energy use, and production reliability.
  • Support asset operations by troubleshooting equipment issues, performing root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations (ASME, API, ISO, local regulations, company standards).
  • Support inspection, testing, and condition monitoring programs to maintain asset integrity and extend equipment life.
  • Provide technical input to capital projects and modifications, including specifications, design reviews, and commissioning activities.
  • Review and approve process work scopes, job packs, and method statements for execution.
  • Oversee contractors and vendors, ensuring quality, safety, and adherence to technical and contractual requirements.
  • Support turn-round, commissioning, and start-up activities as required
  • Participate in safety studies and risk assessments (HAZOP, HAZIDs, LOPA) and implement safeguards and improvements.
  • Support change management processes by assessing impacts of operational or design changes.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including drawings, datasheets, calculations, and operating/maintenance procedures.
  • Act as a Lead investigator using Kelvin TopSet investigation techniques to support business requirements.

ABOUT YOU

To be successful in this role, we are looking for:

  • Educated to degree level, ideally MEng in Chemical Engineering
  • Chartered Engineer preferable
