Senior Product Manager – Payments
Mumbai, IndiaFull-timeMid · 5-8 years
About this role
Position Overview
- Own the Payments side of the ShopSe platform end-to-end — the full transaction lifecycle from checkout and payment initiation through authorisation, capture, settlement, refunds and reconciliation — including owning ShopSe’s integrations with PA/PG partners through which our affordability journeys run.
- Senior IC role with full ownership of measurable outcomes and clear accountability for results.
- Reports directly to the Director of Product. Works closely with cross-functional teams — PA/PG partners, lenders, tech, design, finance-ops and compliance.
- Drives sprint-on-sprint improvements in payment success rates and settlement TAT, and month-on-month growth in processed volume (GMV) across payment partners. No drop-off in the payment funnel goes un-addressed for more than 2 sprints.
- Owns the full payment funnel — checkout, payment-method selection, authentication, authorisation, capture and settlement — and is accountable for conversion at every stage, from first intent to settled transaction.
In this role, you have the opportunity to …
- Own the payments engine of one of India’s fastest-scaling fintechs.
- Define the PA/PG integration, settlement and reconciliation strategy from the ground up.
- Build the payments stack that powers ShopSe’s next phase of category and partner expansion.
- Work directly with leadership on FY27 planning and shape the payments product roadmap.
Responsibilities will include …
Functional Expertise
- Payment Success & Checkout Conversion: — Own the end-to-end transaction funnel — checkout, authentication, authorisation, capture and confirmation. Drive sprint-on-sprint improvements in payment success rates (SR) and checkout conversion through experimentation and friction removal.
- PA/PG & Acquiring Integrations: — Own ShopSe’s integrations with Payment Aggregators and Payment Gateways end-to-end — scoping, API integration, certification, go-live and steady-state monitoring. Track the payment funnel and success rates (SR) partner-by-partner, drive fixes with partner teams, and own commercials such as MDR.
- Acquiring-Side Journey: — Own the acquiring side of the journey end-to-end — merchant onboarding (KYC/KYB), MID/TID setup, pricing and MDR constructs, chargeback and dispute management, and checkout experiences across UPI, cards, net banking and EMI.
- Settlements, Refunds & Reconciliation: — Own settlement cycles (T+n), split settlements, refunds and the reconciliation engine across PAs, acquiring banks and lenders. Reduce settlement TAT, recon breaks and refund turnaround time.
AI as a First-Class Lever
- Bring an AI-first approach to product and operations — use AI to write BRDs and PRDs, accelerate research and competitive analysis, assist reconciliation and dispute operations, and identify opportunities where AI meaningfully improves success rates and funnel visibility.
Interaction
- Cross-Functional Coordination: — PA/PG partners, tech, design, finance-ops, compliance. Weekly tech syncs, monthly business reviews, quarterly planning.
- Merchant & Partner Empathy: — Stay close to PA/PG Partners. Join partner review calls, sit in on support and dispute calls and identify where payments break and how to fix it.
Problem Solving
- Funnel & Cohort Analytics: — Read the payment funnel, run cohort analyses on success rates, failures (by bank, method and PA/PG), settlements and refunds, and own the dashboards. Separate real product gaps from issuer- and bank-side effects.
- Experimentation: — Design and run A/B tests at velocity across the checkout and payment funnel. Build a culture of evidence over opinion across the payments product team.
- Strategic Vision: — Translate FY26–27 ambition into a sequenced roadmap. Defend it with data when priorities collide.
Qualification & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business or related field; MBA preferred but not mandatory.
- 5–8 years in product management, with 3+ years owning payments product surfaces.
- Direct experience in the payments domain — PA/PG, fintech payments or merchant acquiring — is required. Hands-on experience of PA/PG integrations and a deep understanding of the acquiring side of the journey: merchant onboarding, transaction processing, settlement, refunds and disputes.
- Proven track record of moving payment success rates, checkout conversion or settlement metrics — with numbers.
- Experience working with PA/PG partners and integrating payment APIs, webhooks, reconciliation files and chargeback/dispute flows.
- Strong working knowledge of India’s payments rails — UPI (including UPI Autopay and Credit Line on UPI), net banking, eNACH, PCI-DSS and settlement and escrow norms.
- Hands-on fluency with AI tools in daily product work — LLM assistants for spec writing, prompt design for research and analysis, and a clear point of view on where AI fits in a payments stack.
- Excellent written and verbal communication. Crisp PRDs.
