About the role

Provide compassionate psychological care for children and young people living with chronic pain. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the role delivers assessment, therapy and support for children and families across inpatient, outpatient and community settings, helping improve wellbeing and quality of life.

Key duties of the role

  • Provide specialist mental health and psychological support to children and young people with chronic pain and complex rehabilitation needs
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team to provide holistic, bio-psychosocial, trauma-informed, patient-centred, and evidenced-based clinical assessment and interventions. 
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of mental health and rehabilitation services for children, adolescents, and families and advocate for positive mental health outcomes.
  • Provide child & adolescent mental health education and psychological education and training to the Paediatric Chronic Pain Service.

Skills and Experience

  • General registration with the Psychology Board of Australia and desirably holding an endorsed area of practice and being a Board-Approved supervisor. 
  • Experience in conducting psychological assessment and intervention with children, young people and families experiencing complex emotional, behavioural and/or cognitive difficulties.
  • Experience in service provision within a multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary setting and across a range of agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply specialised skills in analysing complex clinical problems and formulate and implement appropriate intervention (individual, family, systemic).
