The Opportunity

As a Senior Relationship Manager - Middle Market, you will play a pivotal role in driving business growth by developing and managing a portfolio of commercial clients. You will leverage your financial expertise, business development skills, and strategic thinking to deepen client relationships, identify new opportunities, and deliver solutions that create lasting value for both our clients and the Bank.

What You'll Do

  • Grow and manage a portfolio of middle market clients by developing trusted advisory relationships with business owners, executives, and key decision-makers.
  • Drive new business acquisition through proactive prospecting, networking, and referrals while expanding existing client relationships through strategic cross-selling opportunities.
  • Structure and negotiate complex credit and treasury solutions that align with client objectives and generate profitable growth.
  • Partner closely with internal specialists across treasury, capital markets, cash management, payments, and investment solutions to deliver comprehensive client strategies.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, proactively identifying challenges, resolving issues, and ensuring an exceptional client experience.
  • Analyze financial statements, industry trends, competitive positioning, and market dynamics to provide insightful recommendations and uncover growth opportunities.
  • Identify wallet share opportunities and develop strategic account plans that deepen relationships and enhance client value.
  • Lead credit discussions and manage the deal process from origination through approval, execution, and ongoing portfolio management.
  • Represent BMO within the business community, participating in industry events, associations, and networking opportunities to strengthen market presence and build brand awareness.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders and cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions that address evolving client needs.
  • Monitor portfolio performance and proactively manage risk while maintaining strong returns and compliance with the Bank's risk management framework.
  • Ensure all activities align with regulatory requirements, internal controls, and BMO's commitment to prudent risk management.

What You'll Bring

  • 7+ years of experience in Commercial Banking, Relationship Management, Account Management, or Portfolio Management with demonstrated success in business development and revenue growth.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong commercial credit and financial analysis capabilities, with experience structuring and negotiating complex transactions.
  • A proven ability to build influential relationships and become a trusted advisor to senior business leaders.
  • Deep understanding of commercial banking products and solutions, including lending, treasury management, and cash management.
  • Strong business development mindset with a track record of identifying opportunities and growing client portfolios.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to navigate complexity, exercise sound judgment, and deliver results in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Salary:

$69,000.00 - $129,000.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
