Job Description:

As a Senior Rotating Equipment Engineer at bp, you will provide rotating equipment expertise for safe, reliable and efficient operation, combining troubleshooting, life-cycle stewardship, condition monitoring, reliability improvement, turnaround support and project assurance.

What you will deliver

Standard accountabilities:

• Provide timely frontline engineering support for normal operations, startup, shutdown, plant upset and equipment performance issues, with clear, documented recommendations.
• Apply risk management to identify, assess, communicate and reduce safety, integrity, reliability, production and cost risks. Participate in applicable risk assessments and hazard reviews and steward actions to closure.
• Lead or provide discipline expertise to incident investigations and Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA), including immediate-cause analysis where required. Convert findings into sustainable corrective actions.
• Own or support discipline equipment strategies. Use operating history, condition monitoring, failure data and reliability insights to develop, verify and optimize maintenance tasks, intervals and SAP PM build.
• Identify bad actors, vulnerabilities, obsolescence and single-point failures and develop prioritized defect-elimination and life-cycle solutions.
• Provide technical assurance for Management of Change, brownfield modifications, equipment replacement and project deliverables. Ensure decisions and deviations are risk assessed, justified and documented.
• Provide discipline input to turnaround, outage and site project modification scoping and execution, including technical scope definition, prioritization, workpack readiness, field execution support, commissioning/startup support and post-event learning.
• Monitor equipment, system or process health and convert data into actionable insights for Operations, Maintenance, Reliability and leadership.
• Maintain fit-for-purpose engineering records, calculations, drawings, strategies and technical reports in accordance with applicable standards.
• Coach engineers and technicians, share lessons and good practices, and strengthen engineering capability and continuous improvement.

Role-specific accountabilities:

• Provide technical support for gas turbines, steam turbines, compressors, pumps, electric motors and auxiliaries including lube-oil, anti-surge, starting, sealing and instrumentation systems.
• Assure vibration-analysis and condition-monitoring programmes and interpret machinery-health data.
• Provide assurance for dry-gas seals, mechanical seals and rotating package performance, maintenance and repair decisions.
• Manage technical interfaces with OEMs and contractors.
• Drive performance of OEMs, contractors and Long-Term Service Agreement (LTSA) providers. Monitor technical performance, contractual obligations, service quality, repair outcomes and continuous improvement opportunities.
• Develop and maintain strategic relationships with OEMs, repair facilities and technical specialists to support equipment reliability, obsolescence management, operational troubleshooting and long-term asset integrity.
• Develop long-term asset strategies including obsolescence management, major equipment replacement planning, life-extension assessments and capital reliability improvement opportunities.

What you will need to be successful

In addition to a Bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical engineering, it is essential that the successful candidate also demonstrates:

• At least 15 years in major projects and/or oil and gas operations; gas-turbine and LNG operations experience is preferable.
• Application of API, ISO, ANSI and NFPA standards for rotating equipment.
• Design and operating experience for gas turbines, steam turbines, compressors, pumps and electric motors.
• Experience with dry-gas and mechanical seals, vibration analysis, condition monitoring and rotating auxiliaries.
• Experience in turnarounds, maintenance, startup and shutdown; OEM/contractor management; equipment lists, P&IDs, PFDs, wiring and control-logic diagrams.
• Experience in HSSE and quality management; able to work office and site based.

Additionally, it would be ;beneficial to have:

• Ability and understanding of the architecture of System 1 EVO.
• Experience in Gas Turbine Frame-7EA and LM 6000 aero derivative turbine
• Experience in applying digital technologies, advanced analytics or predictive-maintenance tools on equipment reliability improvement.
• Membership of a relevant professional engineering institution.
