We are seeking an experienced Secondary & Protection Engineer to join our growing Power team and contribute to the delivery of critical energy infrastructure projects across Aotearoa.
In this role, you'll apply your technical expertise to the design and delivery of secondary and protection systems for transmission and distribution networks. You'll work alongside multidisciplinary teams and trusted clients to deliver innovative, high-quality engineering solutions while supporting and mentoring developing engineers.
What you'll do
Complete detailed design and implementation of protection and controls systems for distribution, sub-transmission, and transmission substations for High Voltage (HV 220kV) and Extra High Voltage (EHV 500kV) projects
Conduct fault studies using industry-standard software to ensure optimal system performance
Lead technical work packages and support the development of emerging engineers through coaching, mentoring and on-the-job training
Develop and review secondary and protection schemes from concept design through to detailed schematics, relay settings and commissioning support
Provide technical advice to clients across project scoping, design and delivery phases, ensuring solutions align with their requirements
Ensure compliance with legislative design standards while performing quality checks to maintain high standards of delivery

You are an experienced Secondary & Protection Engineer with a strong technical foundation and a passion for delivering quality outcomes.
You'll bring:
A degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
Strong experience in transmission and distribution secondary and protection engineering
A deep understanding of HV power systems, modern protection relay technologies, substation automation systems, and their application through design, testing and commissioning
Experience leading project teams or technical work packages, with a passion for coaching and mentoring emerging engineers
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to build trusted relationships and clearly explain complex technical concepts
A proactive, solutions-focused mindset, supported by strong analytical and problem-solving skills
The ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a focus on quality outcomes
Progress towards, or achievement of, Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng), Registered Professional Engineer (RPEng) or equivalent professional accreditation is advantageous.
