We are seeking an experienced Senior Systems Administrator (Infrastructure Engineer) to support the design, deployment, and ongoing management of secure, enterprise-scale infrastructure environments. This role is ideal for professionals with strong Linux systems administration expertise, experience across virtualised and cloud environments, and a passion for automation and continuous improvement. You'll work as part of a collaborative technical team to deliver resilient, high-performing infrastructure that supports critical systems and services. This role is a 12-month contract based on-site in Canberra, ACT.

Requirements

What You'll Do

  • Lead the installation, configuration, maintenance, and lifecycle management of enterprise infrastructure and platforms.
  • Manage and optimise Linux-based systems across on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Design, deploy, and administer VMware and VMware Aria environments.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure automation and configuration management using modern tooling and best practices.
  • Deploy and support Kubernetes, Docker, and virtualised environments across multiple platforms.
  • Configure, troubleshoot, and maintain networking components, including VLANs, DNS, load balancers, and firewall rules.
  • Deploy developer and analyst tooling, including IDEs, package management solutions, and access controls.
  • Build and maintain isolated or sandboxed environments for secure testing and analysis.
  • Collaborate with system administrators, software developers, and technical stakeholders to improve infrastructure performance and operational processes.
  • Mentor team members, contribute to technical design reviews, and provide expert advice on infrastructure solutions.

What You'll Bring

  • Extensive experience in Linux systems administration across both on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Strong expertise in VMware and VMware Aria, including design, deployment, administration, and lifecycle management.
  • Hands-on experience with containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Solid networking knowledge, including configuring and troubleshooting VLANs, DNS, load balancers, and firewall rules.
  • Experience deploying developer environments, package management tools, and implementing secure access controls.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and supporting sandboxed or isolated environments.
  • Strong automation and scripting skills, with experience using configuration management and infrastructure-as-code tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative technical team.
  • Current TSPV (Top Secret Positive Vetting) security clearance is required
