What you'll do

  • Design end-to-end in-store customer experiences: define user interactions, information architecture, and visual language, and deliver the right artifacts — user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
  • Dive deep on customer pain points and triangulate inputs (qualitative and quantitative data, user and stakeholder feedback, business and technical constraints) to inform and iterate design solutions, working creatively around difficult constraints to maintain a high customer-experience bar.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, researchers, engineers, design technologists, industrial designers, and store designers to give form to early ideas and bring them to the finish line.
  • Partner with UX research to formulate generative and evaluative studies, and use the results to sharpen the experience.
  • Act as the point person and evangelist for the system: refine and, where needed, define contribution and review models, lifecycle management, versioning, and scalability standards, and help drive adoption, enablement, and education.
  • Hold the system-wide quality bar — cross-platform coherence, accessibility, and brand consistency — coaching teams to make educated tradeoffs between flexibility, coherency, usability, and efficiency.
  • Support the AI transformation of the system: integrate AI into design-system tooling, adoption workflows, and the day-to-day designer experience to enable an accelerated and democratized product development cycle.
  • Partner closely with engineering to bridge the gap between design intent and technical implementation, keeping both the experience and the system shipped and in parity with code.
  • Actively mentor designers on system usage and craft, raising the design-system fluency of the org.
  • Communicate complex design and system decisions clearly and persuasively — across different audiences and up through product, engineering, and design leadership.

What they're looking for

  • 7+ years of delivering design solutions as a UX designer or interaction designer experience
  • Experience in a variety of design, wire-framing, and prototyping tools
  • Experience in UX research
  • Experience delivering results by partnering with and influencing others
  • Demonstrated experience building, scaling, and maintaining multi-platform design systems (component architecture, variants, design tokens, grid systems, published libraries).

Nice to have

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Demonstrated passion for and experience integrating AI into the design/product development workflow to accelerate and democratize how teams build.
  • Proficiency building concepts in code to communicate design decisions.

Full description from employer

We are looking for a Senior UX Designer who will be part of our Amazon Grocery Ads and In-Store Experience (GRAISE) team — designing in-store experiences and leading our design system. GRAISE, part of Worldwide Grocery Store Tech (WWGST), delights in-store grocery shoppers through innovative solutions. In this role you will design next-generation in-store shopping experiences alongside a multi-disciplinary team, and serve as the lead and point person for a complex, multi-surface design system that unifies those experiences across a wide range of form factors, resolutions, use cases, and technology stacks — from Dash Cart and Self-Checkout to Point of Sale and In-Store Mode on phone.

As a Senior UX Designer and Design System Lead for WWGST GRAISE, you will spend the majority of your time doing hands-on CX design alongside the design teams building in-store experiences, and you will own the design system that keeps that work coherent, high-quality, and fast to ship. Design system leadership will take roughly 30–50% of your bandwidth; the balance is hands-on design.

Key job responsibilities
- Design end-to-end in-store customer experiences: define user interactions, information architecture, and visual language, and deliver the right artifacts — user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
- Dive deep on customer pain points and triangulate inputs (qualitative and quantitative data, user and stakeholder feedback, business and technical constraints) to inform and iterate design solutions, working creatively around difficult constraints to maintain a high customer-experience bar.

- Partner with UX research to formulate generative and evaluative studies, and use the results to sharpen the experience.
- Act as the point person and evangelist for the system: refine and, where needed, define contribution and review models, lifecycle management, versioning, and scalability standards, and help drive adoption, enablement, and education.
- Hold the system-wide quality bar — cross-platform coherence, accessibility, and brand consistency — coaching teams to make educated tradeoffs between flexibility, coherency, usability, and efficiency.
- Support the AI transformation of the system: integrate AI into design-system tooling, adoption workflows, and the day-to-day designer experience to enable an accelerated and democratized product development cycle.
- Partner closely with engineering to bridge the gap between design intent and technical implementation, keeping both the experience and the system shipped and in parity with code.
- Actively mentor designers on system usage and craft, raising the design-system fluency of the org.
- Communicate complex design and system decisions clearly and persuasively — across different audiences and up through product, engineering, and design leadership.

About the team
You will be part of a team of passionate designers, product managers, UX researchers, applied scientists, and engineers that are defining, building, and delivering in-store grocery experiences that shoppers love. We are curious and motivated to be part of an ambitious program that combines deep user understanding with innovative thinking to reinvent grocery. Our team is located across Seattle, Austin, TX, WA, Boston, MA and the Boston MetroWest area — Hudson, MA.
