What You Will Get To Do

The Senior Vehicle and Equipment Trainer will maintain the Town of Whitby compliance to all regulatory training requirements along with functional expertise to all Town departments on safe vehicle or equipment use and operation. The position is the primary contact for external training providers, the Town’s Level II CVOR, employee provincial driver’s abstracts, and regulatory guidance.

The position provides individual coaching and assessment of staff that use Town vehicles and equipment.

• Act as subject matter expert in area of safe vehicle and equipment operation and related training and processes;

• Research, develop and implement training that meet or exceed applicable legislation and due diligence requirements with respect to vehicle and equipment operation and reviews operator qualifications and training

• Monitors and acquires fleet training programs and training formats that ensures drivers and supervisors receive training in the areas of safe driving and safe equipment operation

• Provides recommendations on new hires, collision preventability and training in conjunction with the Safe Driving Program while liasing with HR and other departments to maintain the Program

• Provides input to vehicle specifications to ensure appropriate operational and safety features are included in the acquisition of new vehicles and equipment

• Provides suggested avenues of training and compliance to reduce vehicle related collision frequency and severity

• Conducts vehicle collision investigations to determine preventability as required and reports investigation results to Risk Management to ensure all information is available in the event of serious collision

• Promotes best practice(s) and vehicle safety awareness through training and safety related communication channels

• Monitors and reports quarterly on Level II CVOR record for the Town of Whitby

• Monitors and reports quarterly on Authorized Requester Information Services System for provincial drivers abstracts and CVOR abstract records to ensure ministerial requirements are met including Whitby Fire Services

• Manages and updates all driver files to ensure ministerial compliance

• Represents vehicle and Equipment Training in Labour Relations activities related to safe vehicle operation

• Initiates the development, updating and application of audit/compliance review elements for the Town of Whitby as it relates to the driver/ operator ministerial regulations

• Perform Defensive Driving Instructor and Support Trainer audits to improve instructor skills/coaching.

What You Bring To Our Team

As the successful applicant, you must possess:

• Minimum DZ provincial driver’s license (AZ preferred) in good standing to meet provincial Driver Certification Program (DCP) requirements;

• 5+ years of municipal equipment operation and experience;

• 5 years directly related industry knowledge of ministerial and regulatory requirements associated to Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO), National Safety Code for Motor Carriers (NSC) and Occupational Health and Safety Act (OH&SA);

• 5 years of supervisory experience;

• Knowledge and expertise associated to CVOR requirements;

• Certification in Adult Instructional techniques;

• Level I vehicle Collision Investigation (Level II preferred);

• Commercial Defensive Driving Instructors Certification;

• Air brake Instructors Certification;

• Basic knowledge of driver habits and collision trends as they relate to commercial vehicle operation; and,

• Extensive knowledge of municipal maintenance operations.

• Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

• Prior experience with Workday and Geotab is considered a strong asset.

Salary Range/Hourly rate:

$113,533.00 - $129,014.00
