About the role
The Stainless Steel Shear & Fabrication Operator is responsible for operating manual shearing equipment and other fabrication machinery to process stainless steel components according to engineering drawings and production requirements. This position requires strong blueprint-reading abilities, manufacturing math skills, and a commitment to producing high-quality parts while maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Set up and operate manual shearing equipment to cut stainless steel materials to specified dimensions and tolerances.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, work orders, and manufacturing specifications.
- Perform layout, measuring, and marking of stainless steel materials.
- Operate fabrication equipment, including but not limited to:
- Roll forming and plate rolling machines
- Drill presses
- Band saws and cold saws
- Angle grinders
- Deburring equipment
- Other fabrication machinery as assigned
- Verify dimensions and quality using measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, squares, and gauges.
- Complete fabrication operations accurately while meeting production schedules and quality standards.
- Safely move and handle stainless steel materials and fabricated parts throughout the production process.
- Maintain equipment and work areas in a clean and organized condition.
- Follow all company safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Report quality, safety, maintenance, or material concerns to supervisors promptly.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or GED.
- Manufacturing, metal fabrication, or sheet metal experience preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and shop work instructions.
- Strong manufacturing math skills, including:
- Fractions and decimals
- Measurement conversions
- Basic geometry
- Accurate tape measure reading
- Experience using common measuring and inspection tools.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to operate fabrication equipment safely.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Perform repetitive hand and arm movements associated with fabrication operations.
- Regular bending, reaching, stooping, and twisting.
- Ability to safely work around manufacturing equipment and moving materials.
Work Environment
- Stainless steel fabrication and manufacturing environment.
- Exposure to machinery, noise, dust, sharp metal edges, and material handling activities.
- Required use of safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and other PPE.
