What you'll do

  • Manage department though supervisors following established procedures adjusting as necessary to meet shipping schedules, increase efficiencies, and meet or exceed budget objectives
  • Oversee the day-to-day departmental activities to ensure efficient transportation and storage of materials used and produced by production lines and the safe and efficient loading and unloading of product to reduce risk of contamination and damage
  • Review department, docks, and storage facilities to ensure they are organized and maintained according to guidelines/procedures
  • Gather, compile, and create required reports communicating bottlenecks, issues, and other risks to product and shipping schedules to appropriate personnel
  • Mentor, coach and train/ cross-train employees encouraging career development; provide consistent feedback concerning strengths and areas in need of improvement
  • Administer performance improvement plans and disciplinary actions on a fair and consistent basis
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, present to appropriate leader, and implement, lead or participate in solution implementation
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in all areas where mandatory helping to promote a zero-accident culture
  • Perform additional relevant duties as assigned

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Shipping Superintendent partners with the Shipping Manager to oversee the shipping department through supervisory staff to ensure product is stored safely, is dispatched to customers as required, and all procedures are followed in compliance with Company policies (i.e. SOPs, GMPs, etc.) and Federal and State regulations (i.e. USDA, OSHA, etc.) while achieving the highest level of productivity.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

SUPERVISORY ROLE: 
•    This role is a Leader of Leaders role with required competencies:  Sizing up People, Delegation, Planning, Customer Focus and Conflict Management

EDUCATION and CERTIFICATIONS: 
•    High School diploma or equivalent; Associate degree with relevant coursework from an accredited institution preferred
 

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
•    Minimum four (4) years relevant in a supply chain or shipping environment; experience in perishable foods preferred 
•    Demonstrated leadership experience including knowledge of timekeeping requirements, policy adherence, conflict resolution and the ability to resolve issues efficiently and effectively; previous supervisory experience preferred
•    Strong computer literacy (Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook)
•    Must have good communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization in a timely and professional manner; multi-lingual strongly preferred
•    Ability to handle and resolve most issues in an efficient and effective manner while ensuring confidential information is relayed only on a need-to-know basis
•    Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize projects, planning skills, and a high attention to detail
•    Must possess a strong customer-centric attitude, high energy level and a strong sense of urgency

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
•    Follow and ensure others follow departmental and company safety policies and programs
•    Wear required protective equipment in all areas where mandatory

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
•    Ability to work extended shifts (holiday, weekend and/or extended) as business need requires
•    Ability to work in cold/ humid or hot/ dusty environments as needed
•    Ability to move throughout the shipping department throughout the entire shift
•    Ability to lift 50 lbs as needed
