Software Engineer, AI Engineering Productivity

Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. In this role, your focus will be on applying the state of the art in DevAI tools and knowledge to build valuable automations for the GPay development team. Our focus will be on supercharging client development so you will learn and leverage client skills to improve code context, ways of working, and code architecture over time. You will be expected to develop agent skills and prompts, engineering designs for client facing features, and push the boundary of what automation can do including experimenting with end-to-end automatic QA and bug fixing via agents.

The mission for Google Commerce is to be an essential part of the shopping journey for consumers - from inspiration to to a simple and secure checkout experience - and the best place for retailers/merchants to connect with consumers. We support and partner with the commerce ecosystem, from large retailers to small local merchants, to give them the tools, technology and scale to thrive in today’s digital world.

Responsibilities:

• Apply cutting-edge DevAI tools and knowledge to create valuable automations for the Google Pay development team.
  
• Supercharge client development by leveraging AI to improve code context, development workflows, and code architecture.
• Create agent skills, craft prompts, and write engineering designs for client-facing features to continually push the boundaries of automation.
• Experiment with and implement end-to-end automatic quality assurance and bug fixing using AI agents.
  
• Develop agent skills and improve design processes to enable UX partners to confidently deliver high-quality view code directly into production.
  

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
• 1 year of experience with full stack development, across back-end such as Java, Python, GO, or C++ codebases, and front-end experience including JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML, CSS or equivalent.
• 1 year of experience with AI and agentic development.
• Experience working with JavaScript, Java, Kotlin, PHP, Python, Ruby, Node.js, Go, iOS, android mobile app development, or web technologies.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience with mobile app or front-end/client development.
• Experience with building systems that scale users globally.
• Experience in working with PM/UX to drive end-to-end features.
• Experience developing mobile applications using Flutter and Dart.
• Experience with developing machine learning models, launch experiments (A/B Testing), and end-to-end data infra and analytics pipelines.
