Job summary
The Software Engineer will design, develop, and support advanced software systems for space telescope and laser platforms within EOS’s Space Systems division. This role focuses on delivering high-performance, reliable, and scalable software that enables precision space observation, tracking, and laser operations.
Working within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, the role contributes across the full software lifecycle, including development, integration, testing, and deployment, ensuring systems meet the demands of mission-critical observatory and space applications.
The position requires strong technical capability, adaptability to complex problem domains, and the ability to deliver robust solutions both independently and collaboratively within small, high-performing teams.
Primary duties
Design, develop, integrate, and maintain high-performance software systems supporting space telescope and laser operations, ensuring reliable and efficient functionality through rigorous testing, system verification, and close collaboration with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain software systems supporting space telescope and laser operations
Deliver high-quality, reliable, and high-availability software solutions for mission-critical environments
Support system integration, verification, and validation within observatory and space systems
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across software, hardware, optical, and systems engineering
Implement and enhance DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines and system automation
Perform troubleshooting, debugging, and root-cause analysis of complex software and system issues
Contribute to distributed processing and real-time systems
Develop and enhance visualisation tools and user interfaces for operational use
Ensure software meets the requirements of safety-critical systems
Support continuous improvement of software quality, performance, and engineering standards.
Experience
A least 3 years’ experience
Strong experience in C++ development on Windows and Linux platforms within complex engineering environments
Experience with Python or similar programming languages for system development, automation, and data processing
Proven experience applying software testing methodologies and frameworks, including unit, integration, and system-level testing
Experience developing and supporting high-availability, mission-critical software systems
Exposure to distributed processing and real-time systems, particularly in scientific or observatory environments
Experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, version control, and automated deployment
Knowledge of safety-critical software and systems automation, including interaction with hardware or bespoke firmware
Experience contributing to visualisation tools, user interfaces, and data-driven applications (desirable)
Familiarity with space systems, astronomical observatories, or laser-based platforms (desirable)
