Software Engineering Intern

We are looking for a Software Engineering Intern to develop and improve state-of-the-art software for digital radiography (DR) and computed tomography (CT) equipment. You must be a Junior or Senior in college pursuing an Engineering degree. This full-time, paid internship is located on-site in Rogers, Minnesota. You will have opportunities to attend networking events, both within NSI and across ITW's divisions in Minnesota. At the end of the summer, you'll present your project to NSI business leaders, showcasing your contributions and impact.

What You will Do:

• Primary Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and support software for use in X-ray imaging and computed tomography

  • Create technical design, implementation and training documentation that describes new software functionality.

  • Use varied development tools including Visual Studio, GitHub, coding agents, issue and task tracking for implementation of software solutions.

  • Communicate new developments and findings to internal/external customers in the form of presentations, technical reports and patent applications.

  • Develop and support software interfaces to a variety of hardware devices: UIs, X-ray detectors, X-ray sources, optical cameras, motion components, robots.

  • Support new and maintaining engineering and planning.

What We’re Looking For:

• Junior or Senior pursuing an Engineering degree with at least a 3.0 GPA

• Technical skill:

  • C++, Python or C#

  • AI Agent usage (Cursor, Claude)

  • GUI design (WinForms, WPF)

• Strong written and verbal communication skills — you can explain your ideas clearly, whether in an email, a meeting, or a quick Teams message

• Comfortable juggling multiple tasks and hitting deadlines, even when priorities shift

• A genuine eagerness to learn, paired with a proactive, can-do attitude — you ask questions and look for ways to contribute

• Leadership and teamwork experience from any setting — clubs, sports, group projects, part-time jobs, or other extracurriculars

• Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)

• Preferred Skills:

  • GPU programming (CUDA or OpenCL)

  • 3D graphics (OpenGL)

  • Image analysis, computer vision

  • Computed tomography

  • Data science

Compensation Information:

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $19-29/hr. based on education and experience.
