Unstructured Data Storage (UDS) group delivers two core solutions of the Dell AI Platform - PowerScale and ObjectScale, providing AI-ready storage for the world’s most data intensive challenges. We are looking for talented professionals to join our Software Engineering Team and help shape the future of storage. Join us as a Principal Software Engineer on our team in Cork to do the best work of your career and make a profound impact.

In UDS we build enterprise-grade, massively scalable storage systems - clustered, high-performance, and resilient. Our portfolio includes a multi-petabyte S3 object store and a scale-out NAS platform. We’re a modern engineering org that ships with high velocity and quality, using innovative AI tools and spec driven development to deliver new capabilities for our products.  

You will:

• Lead multi-component software projects through all aspects of software development life cycle: planning, requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance
• Translate broad business and customer objectives into clear engineering plans, technical specifications and independently deliverable workstreams
• Drive adoption of improved engineering workflows, reusable tools, AI-assisted development practices and quality guardrails
• Represent the team’s technical direction in discussions with architects, product teams and other engineering organizations 
• Mentor engineers within and beyond the immediate team, growing their technical judgement, autonomy and ability to deliver high quality software

Essential Requirements  

• Exceptional programming skills with at least 8 years of related experience, preferably in C, C++, Java or Python, on distributed systems; strong understanding of programming fundamentals
• Demonstrated experience leading delivery of complex software projects spanning multiple components, subsystems or engineering teams
• Ability to turn ambiguous business or customer goals into actionable technical designs and specifications  
• Demonstrable experience guiding AI agents to deliver production level software, evaluating it for correctness, maintainability, performance, security and quality
• Strong understanding of software architecture/system design 

Desirable Requirements  

• Experience with operating systems, distributed systems, networking, and storage internals
• Familiarity with storage protocols (NFS/SMB/S3)
