Software Quality Engineer 5

Roles & Responsibilities

• Defining the overall test strategy, quality architecture, and automation roadmap across products and teams.
• Designing and owning scalable, reusable test automation frameworks and establishing best practices for their adoption.
• Establishing quality gates, entry/exit criteria, and metrics (coverage, defect leakage, escape rate) to drive engineering quality.
• Architecting test approaches across functional, integration, API, performance, security, and end-to-end layers.
• Reviewing software requirements and system architecture to identify quality risks early and shape testable designs.
• Analysing test results across database impacts, integration points, performance, and usability to guide engineering decisions.
• Driving root-cause analysis of production issues and building preventive quality mechanisms.
• Partnering with architects, developers, and product teams during design reviews to influence requirements, product design, and risk mitigation.
• Mentoring and upskilling QE engineers, and setting the technical direction for the quality organization.
• Evaluating and introducing new tools, frameworks, and technologies (including AI-assisted testing) to continuously improve quality velocity.
• Interacting with clients and stakeholders to align quality strategy with product and business goals.
   

Required Skills & Expertise

• BE/BS/MCA in Computer Science or related field, with 12–18+ years of professional software testing experience, including significant time in a senior/lead/architect capacity.
• Proven experience defining test strategy and quality architecture across multiple teams or products.
• Deep expertise in designing and building test automation frameworks from the ground up (e.g., TestNG, Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, or equivalent).
• Strong experience with Web Services and REST/GraphQL API testing and automation.
• Experience with web-based application testing across multiple browsers and platforms.
• Hands-on expertise in CI/CD integration of automated testing (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI) and shift-left quality practices.
• Working knowledge of performance testing (e.g., JMeter, Gatling) and security testing fundamentals.
• Familiarity with cloud environments, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and testing in distributed/microservices architectures.
• Strong programming/scripting skills (Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar) to architect and review automation code.
• Ability to define quality metrics and use data to drive continuous improvement.
• Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to influence engineering teams and collaborate efficiently with both local and remote stakeholders.
• Expertise in estimating testing and automation efforts accurately and delivering on schedule.
• Deep experience with Agile engineering methodologies such as Scrum, and embedding quality within them.
• Track record of leading testing efforts and acting as the final guardrail against defect leakage to production.

• Must be a self-starter with excellent time management skills, able to drive quality across multiple projects and teams simultaneously.
• Must be self-directed and able to work independently, as well as lead and influence in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
• Ability to generate requirements, estimates, and quality plans, and translate them into an actionable technical roadmap.
• Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present strategy to both engineering teams and leadership.
• Must be a thought leader who mentors others and continuously raises the quality bar.
• Must LOVE solving hard problems.
