Job Title: Investment Associate/Sr. Investment Associate

Location: San Francisco, CA

Position Overview: Pivotal Life Sciences is seeking an Investment Associate with institutional biotech investing experience, deep expertise in therapeutics valuation and financial modeling, and a track record across private and public markets—including SMID-cap biotech—with exposure to both buy-side and sell-side transaction execution. This role uniquely integrates finance, therapeutics investment research, and artificial intelligence within the biotechnology sector, focusing on leveraging data science to enhance investment decisions. 

Key Responsibilities:

1. Investment Analysis: Conduct thorough market research, competitive analysis, and due diligence on investment opportunities in the biotechnology sector, focusing on AI-driven insights.
2. Financial Modeling: Build, update, and maintain comprehensive financial models to evaluate the viability of potential investments, incorporating AI techniques where applicable.
3. Collaboration: Work closely with senior investment professionals, data scientists, and software engineers to integrate AI and analytics into investment processes and decision-making.
4. Data Science Contribution: Contribute to the development of predictive algorithms and AI models that inform investment strategies and improve portfolio performance.
5. Reporting: Prepare and present investment recommendations, detailed reports, and findings to senior leadership and investment committees.
6. Stakeholder Engagement: Establish and maintain relationships with industry experts, portfolio companies, and key opinion leaders to gather insights and foster collaboration.
7. Continuous Learning: Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and technological advancements relevant to biotech and AI applications in finance.
   

Qualifications:

1. Education: Advanced degree (PhD) in Biology or a related life sciences field required.
2. Work Experience: 2-5 years of relevant work experience in venture capital, investment banking, or buy or sell side public investment research, with a focus on biotechnology (ideally therapeutics) preferred.
3. AI and Data Science Skills:

1. 1. Familiarity with data analysis, machine learning, and AI applications in finance and/or biotechnology.
   2. Basic programming skills in Python or similar languages are a plus.

1. Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of financial modeling, valuation techniques, and investment analysis.
2. Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
3. Analytical Skills: Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to identifying opportunities.
4. Team Player: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
5. Intellectual Curiosity: A passion for learning and staying ahead of industry developments, particularly in AI and biotechnology.

 

Salary Range: $225,000-$250,000 plus annual performance bonus & equity opportunities
