Job Summary
The Senior Technical Support Specialist - Engineering use a full range of technical knowledge and experience to support management in meeting the objectives and responsibilities of the Engineering department. Perform mathematical calculations as necessary to support project designs and cost estimates. Review and approve accurate construction documents containing complex technical terminology. Complete design projects adhering to Company standards, State and Federal codes. The following are key job functions:
- Works under the daily supervision provided by Company Supervision or their designee(s) to facilitate new and replacement capital construction design projects.
- Manages their own time to meet assigned objectives along with sharing responsibility for ensuring the success of team efforts in meeting or exceeding company goals.
- Applies knowledge and analytical skills to respond to inquiries from others to solve complex problems as assigned.
- Complete work assignments independently or with minimal supervision.
- Provide engineering support for Gas Operations, Engineering, Construction, and Marketing when assigned by supervision.
- Take personal responsibility to collaborate with the Engineering department staff to develop a thorough understanding of the Gas Engineering design, construction, and operation and maintain standards to support 36-month progression to Senior Design Engineer.

Key Responsibilities
This role is recognized by the Connecticut Independent Utility Workers (“CIUW”) Local 12924 Union and is responsible for all job duties listed below:
- Responsible for complete development of project CAD construction drawing packages which include; main installation and retirement, all services affected by project, individual work orders in SAP for mains and all services.
- Create main and service tables for each project and draft job procedures.
- Confirm gas pipe flow pressures using GasCalc software.
- Draft new regulator stations and commercial meter sets using CAD and SAP.
- Scan construction drawing jobs and save in a folder on the network drive by work order number for future viewing and records. Save in CAD and PDF form.
- Log all Mass highway jobs on the network drive. Review scope of project and added gas utilities if needed and returned to DOT to be updated.
- Provide requested gas utility information to Mass DOT, surveying firms, engineering companies, city and town engineering departments and contractors.
- Provide drafting needs for all of Engineering, Marketing, IT, Distribution Dept., Production Dept., Energy Dept., construction and management.
- Design Services - responsible for work order estimates in SAP for marketing.
- Service to construct - responsible for work order estimate in SAP, CAD drawing & dig-safe.
- Customer charge projects include site visits and accompanying CAD drawing, dig-safe and permits and create a business partner in SAP and a DB80 C1AC quote in SAP.
- Maintain plotter(s), order materials (example: plotter paper, toner and service) when needed.
- Create variant reports.
- Assist in training new engineering employees in putting a project together in CAD and the use of the Berkshire Gas Company standards.
- Maintain standard CAD library for engineering use. Create standard connections & title blocks.
- Post as-built main construction and service drawings for records department as needed.
- Create new DigSafe tickets for work orders.
- Pre-marking the project for DigSafe.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or civil engineering or engineering technology with 2 or more years of technical experience in gas engineering and/or related fields.
- Associate’s degree in mechanical or civil engineering or engineering technology with 4 or more years of technical experience in gas engineering and/or related fields.
- Technical High School diploma in a related technical field with 6 or more years of technical experience in engineering and/or related fields.
- Formal training in AutoCAD is required with 1 to 2 years of experience.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of blueprints, as-builts, mapping is required.
- Ability to work independently and have problem solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Must have proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
- Possess the ability to effectively and accurately organize large quantities of critical information.
- SAP experience is preferred. (SAP Work Management given preference)
- Experience in gas utility or energy sector projects.
