About Boeing Aerostructures Australia (BAA)

BAA produces flight control surfaces for Boeing Commercial Airplanes (737, 777 and 787) and has over 1,000 employees working at its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility situated in Port Melbourne. BAA holds the distinction of being Australia's sole designer and manufacturer of structural composite components for Boeing's commercial airplanes and has been operational since 1927 through its heritage entities.

 

All of BAA’s production is sent to the United States of America for final assembly. The unit's expertise encompasses design and analysis, materials and process technology, testing, structural bonding, resin infusion, non-destructive testing, fabrication, assembly, and painting. The capabilities of BAA are enhanced by the on-site support from Boeing Research and Technology Australia, which participates in advanced composite and automation initiatives.

About Supply Chain at BAA

The BAA Supply Chain Team partners with and manages over 300 suppliers across direct and indirect supply chain. The team supports all purchasing and logistics activities for the site including, contracting and purchasing activities for operations, facilities, HR and Engineering. Supply chain leads the purchase of all production requirements including all non-production goods and services.

The Supply Chain Team is made up of:

• Contracts and Strategy
• Buyers
• Materials Management

The BAA Supply Chain team works closely with the Fabrication Supply Chain team located in Seattle.

Internship in Supply Chain  

At Boeing Aerostructures Australia, Supply Chain supports some of the most advanced aerospace manufacturing programs in the world.

 

This is not a traditional “office internship.” Interns are exposed to the operational heartbeat of a global aerospace business - supporting real projects, real production challenges and real decisions that directly impact Boeing programs including the 737, 777 and the 787 Dreamliner.

 

You will work alongside the supply chain team supporting supplier reviews, data analysis, key project activities and report outs across multiple highly complex and priority work statements.

 

During your internship, you may gain exposure to:

• Shadowing and supporting members across the Supply Chain team to gain exposure to daily operations and decision-making processes
• Assisting with supply chain coordination, reporting, and administrative tasks
• Participating in meetings and cross-functional discussions to build understanding of business operations
• Supporting a small continuous improvement project focused on reviewing and improving Kanban reorder points. Includes analysing inventory and replenishment data to identify trends and opportunities for optimisation
• Learning and applying lean and continuous improvement principles within operational processes
• Prepare and present meaningful reporting and analysis of Procurement data related to project
• Build networks and connections across a global organisation
• Researching the market and its impact on the supply chain
• Supporting with various purchasing and contracting processes as needed

You will also experience how a global aerospace company responds to operational challenges in real time - balancing schedule, quality, safety, cost and production delivery within one of Australia’s most advanced manufacturing environments.

Whether your interests are in supply chain, engineering, business, operations, project management or aerospace strategy, the Supply Chain internship provides exposure to the complexity and pace of a Tier 1 global aerospace environment.

This is a maximum-term contract position commencing in February 2027 and concluding in mid-2027 before semester 2 commences. During your internship, you will be required to work Monday to Friday on a full-time basis based onsite in Port Melbourne.

 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills / Experience):

• Student status
• Must be available to work full-time hours based onsite in Port Melbourne
• Applicant must have full, unrestricted working rights for Australia

 

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills / Experience):

• Currently in penultimate year of studying a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Supply Chain & Logistics, Business studies, Engineering or Commerce
