  • Demonstrate the ability to build and maintain strong effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders within the division and facility leadership.
  • Implement and coordinate within the medical center and facilities: A system approach to expense savings opportunities, Policy and procedure development related to support services management, Product standardization and utilization, Development and implementation of best practices (patient satisfaction, operations improvement, expense management)
  • Demonstrate financial acumen, which includes reviewing monthly financial reports and spend profiles.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of project management methodologies.
  • Monitor Support Services financial performance versus approved budget, anticipating budget overruns, highlighting areas of unsatisfactory performance, and capitalizing on potential performance improvement opportunities.
  • Demonstrate personal ownership and accountability for safety in department and organization; role model daily use of the safe behavior expectations as personal work habits.

The Support Services Executive Consultant reports to the Chief Operating Officer of the VCUHS Medical Center and has direct responsibility for VCUHS Medical Center support services departments including but not limited to: Safety & Security, Environmental Services, Clinical Engineering, Parking/Courier Services, Food/Nutritional Services, Clinical Nutrition Services, and Service Response, Telepage, Emergency & Event Management. The Support Services Executive Consultant is responsible for the assessment, development, implementation and maintenance of efficient systems that provide accessible patient-centered, cost effective, coordinated care through the activities of the Support Services Department, thus scope of role may be expanded to include additional responsibilities and/or areas of responsibility as assigned.

This Support Services Executive Consultant provides leadership and recommendations to ensure departments in scope are aligned with VCUHS mission and vision, while fostering a diverse, equitable, inclusive and accessible workplace.

The Support Services Executive Consultant has the primary responsibility for planning, organizing, directing and overall administration of the department’s organization-wide operational strategies, financial/expense management, and departmental internal and external regulatory compliance. The position will serve as the subject matter expert for support services standardization and utilization, technology utilization and operations and is responsible for service area planning and building strategic inclusive alliances with leadership and department directors as it relates to successfully executing the services required. The Vice President serves as a liaison to other hospital service areas, agencies, vendors and community.

Essential Functions

  • Ability to review spend profile as it relates to support service areas to identify opportunities 

  • Demonstrate an understanding of project management methodologies, which include but are not limited to: common processes, setting milestones, assigning accountability, practices and tools associated with project management. 

  • Monitor Support Services financial performance versus approved budget, anticipating budget overruns, highlighting areas of unsatisfactory performance, and capitalizing on potential performance improvement opportunities. 

  • Demonstrate personal ownership and accountability for safety in department and organization; role model daily use of the safe behavior expectations as personal work habits. 

  • Promote safe behavior use by all within department; take actions to ensure all team members and contract staff apply the safe behaviors to their everyday work and adopt these behaviors as their personal work habits. 

  • Establish an environment in which it is both encouraged and expected that team members speak up for safety; support team members in speaking up. 

  • Proactively identify quality and safety problems and take effective action to address them. 

  • Support reporting of events and near misses. Facilitate timely evaluation of safety events involving department or staff and implement planned corrective actions. 

  • Assist team members as needed. 

  • Create an equitable and inclusive environment that supports employee satisfaction, improved service, safety, and quality; coach and support team and individual staff development. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned, participate in special projects, and accept alternate assignments as required to fulfill business needs and support the mission of VCUHS. 

Required Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business administration, or closely related field

  • Advanced degree in healthcare, business, or closely related field 

Required Experience:

  • Ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience 

Years and Type of Experience Preferred:
