POSITION SUMMARY

The Lands Survey Assistant provides technical support to the Lands Department by assisting with survey coordination, GIS mapping, spatial data management, and field activities related to reserve lands.

This role supports survey projects and land management initiatives under the authority of the LNIB Land Code and does not perform professional legal surveying functions.

The position contributes to maintaining accurate land data, supporting infrastructure and land use planning projects, and facilitating effective communication between survey professionals, staff, and community members.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

·         SURVEY COORDINATION

 

o    Assist in planning and scheduling survey projects

o    Coordinate with professional surveyors and consultants

o    Support logistics for field survey activities

o    Monitor project progress and documentation

 

·         FIELD SUPPORT

 

o    Assist with field data collection using GPS equipment

o    Support survey site preparation and documentation

o    Ensure safe work practices in field environments

 

·         COMMUNITY & STAKEHOLDER COORDINATION

 

o    Assist with communication regarding survey projects

o    Provide information to community members as required

o    Support public information materials

 

·         OPERATIONAL SUPPORT

 

o    Maintain organized survey records and project files

o    Assist with departmental reporting

o    Perform other related duties as assigned

 

OTHER DUTIES

 

·         Provide crisis management, conflict resolution, and emergency administrative response when required.

·         Participate in community events, ceremonies, and gatherings when appropriate to role.

·         Valid BC driver’s licence.

·         Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Lands.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

 

·         Ability to interpret maps and survey plans

·         Strong organizational and technical skills

·         Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

·         Certificate or Diploma in Survey Technology, GIS, Geomatics, or related field; OR

·         Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

·         Fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and urgent deadlines.

·         Extended periods of computer use, meetings, and seated work.

·         Must maintain a current and clear Criminal Record Check.

·         Valid Class 5 or Class 7N Driver’s Licence
