Your mission starts here at Raytheon Australia! Right now, we are seeking a bright and energised System Safety Engineer.

Raytheon Australia, a trusted partner in Australia's Defence capabilities for over 20 years, sustains and modernises the Australian Defence Air Traffic System (ADATS), which provides military and civilian air traffic control capabilities for the RAAF.

We are seeking a System Safety Engineer to join our team, working across a safety capability assurance program that keeps these essential systems available today and modernises them for the future.

As the program System Safety Engineer, you will provide system safety expertise across all ADATS engineering activities undertaken by the program. You will cover both in-service legacy systems and modernisation work such as the replacement of obsolete air traffic control subsystems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain the safety cases for ADATS systems across sustainment, life extension, obsolescence and modernisation work
  • Lead hazard identification, risk assessment and safety analysis on both legacy equipment and new design changes, ensuring comprehensive risk management across all project phases
  • Review and evaluate the safety impact of design changes, maintaining traceability and compliance with defence standards and DASR regulatory requirements
  • Facilitate program system safety working groups and represent Raytheon at safety governance forums.
  • Develop and maintain critical safety documentation including hazard logs, safety cases, and safety data sheets.
  • Provide safety expertise during design reviews, installation planning, and transition activities across multiple Defence sites.
  • Liaise with the Commonwealth and airworthiness authorities on safety related matters

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Engineering degree
  • System Safety qualification(s)
  • Demonstrated experience in hazard identification and analysis including Preliminary Hazard Analysis, Health Hazard Analysis, and System Hazard Analysis
  • Proven expertise in developing and reviewing safety cases for complex systems
  • Strong understanding of Defence/military safety standards and Australian safety legislation

Desirable:

  • Experience with air traffic management systems or aviation safety.
  • Familiarity with DASR, particularly the ANSP requirements
  • Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) and/or Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) qualification(s).
  • Familiarity with systems engineering tools such as DOORS
