About this role

Company Description

At Catch22, we are proud of our reputation as a modern and progressive employer. Our 1,300 colleagues and 300 volunteers work at every stage of the social welfare cycle, supporting over 60,000 individuals from cradle to career. Our work spans education, social justice and rehabilitation, children's social care, family support, social action and getting people into work.

Catch22 Include schools helps vulnerable young people with challenging behaviours to realise their full potential.

With extensive experience of delivering services to children and young people who have experienced difficulties in mainstream schools and whose education has irretrievably broken down, we support learners to achieve academic and vocational targets and progress into education, training and employment. This approach delivers significant long-term benefits to learners, parents and carers, communities and local authorities.

Our independent schools and a range of tailored support programmes are targeted at young people who fall into high risk groups in all key stages, including those who are excluded or at risk of exclusion from mainstream schools or Pupil Referral Units (PRUs), and those with social, emotional and/or mental health needs (SEMH) or special educational needs (SEN).

Job Description

Join us as within our Primary school as a Teaching Assistant and you could be playing a key role in providing an invaluable programme of education for vulnerable students who present challenging behaviours.

Catch22 Include schools provide an alternative to mainstream schooling for young people aged 5 to 11 years old where multiple barriers to learning have previously affected engagement and access to education.

As a Teaching Assistant you will provide support for our pupils, ensuring that the education provision is of a high quality and that students are supported, motivated and challenged.

If you have the passion, resilience and determination to make a difference this really is a great opportunity to become part of a small team where you can see the impact your interventions are having. Join us and help change young people's lives for the better.

Contract: 15 hours 39 weeks of the year pro rata ( incl of 5 days training outside of term time)

Salary: £25,500 - £27,183 FTE (£8,970.84 - £9,562.91 Pro rata)

As a Teaching Assistant, your main duties will be to:

  • Engage in interventions both in and out of lessons to foster effective participation of students in the social, behaviour and academic processes of the school.
  • Work with the team to implement behaviour management strategies and develop relationships with students who may be vulnerable and have complex needs.
  • Liaise with other agencies to ensure that student needs are fully met.
  • Support the teacher in the delivery of engaging and successful lessons.

Qualifications

As a Teacher Assistant you will need to be resilient. Ideally, you will have a good standard of education, however the role is supportive. You will need to learn aspects of behaviour management and possess the skills and attributes to implement strategies and utilise de-escalation to diffuse behavioural issues. In addition, we are looking for candidates with:

  • Level 2 English and Maths.
  • Knowledge of the statutory requirements of equal opportunities, discrimination, health and safety, SEN & safeguarding of children.

  • Willingness to respond flexibly to the needs of a small team.
  • Ability to work with challenging students, understand their needs and demonstrate effective behaviour management strategies as and when required.
  • Ability to work at an advanced level with the teacher in planning and delivery of teaching activities (including those defined in Individual Education Plans).
  • Experience of teaching children with EAL, SEN, speech and languages difficulties or other complex needs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good relationships and rapport with internal colleagues and external contacts (e.g. parents, education psychologists).
