Job Description

Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Supplier Development, the primary function of the Team Lead, Supplier Development will be to manage the Supplier Development Engineering team, including workload distribution, while also managing personal Supplier Development Projects. You will establish team goals and priorities, and ensure commitments are met. You will establish a partnership with Strategic Sourcing important partners, ensure alignment with RASCII, set strategy, standard processes, and do performance evaluations and feedback for the supplier development team. You will have direct reports outside of the U.S. (Mexico, Asia, Europe).

Main Responsibilities:

  • Identify, and lead to completion, any development projects at Rockwell's critical and strategic suppliers. This is broken down into two areas: 1) Developing and Onboarding new suppliers to Rockwell's requirements and capability expectations, and 2) Improving existing suppliers in areas of quality, cost, and technology. A Sr. SDE (Supplier Development Engineer) will have the capability to take on more complex projects, a greater number of projects at a given time, and have a broader reach across commodities, types of development projects, and across geographies.

  • The ability to adequately manage a team of Rockwell employees and supplier personnel is critical. An SDE (Supplier Development Engineer) will outline, maintain focus, and sustain the results.

  • A function of developing suppliers involves training to Rockwell expectations and requirements. These trainings may be in interpersonal settings, on-site lecture-style, or virtually. An SDE must present well and be comfortable in public speaking settings.

  • You will lead a broad range of development projects at suppliers in commodities of all kinds, SDEs are expected to have a high level of understanding of manufacturing environments, process flows, engineering and technical documentation. A Sr. SDE will be considered a Rockwell subject matter expert in an area of manufacturing or lean six sigma.

  • The projects and trainings deployed by an SDE may directly involve a supplier's quality management system. SDEs must be familiar with high-level QMS requirements from Rockwell, governmental and regulatory agencies, and customers.

  • SDEs will generally rely on SQEs to perform surveillance audits of critical suppliers and inform SDEs of development work needed. However, SDEs may be consultants on supplier audits, and may also perform targeted audits for specific processes if necessary.

  • Communicate with suppliers on development projects, supplier support is crucial. - Monitor and evaluate supplier performance during a development project. - Promote and encourage partnership between suppliers and engineering, if necessary for the project. - Improve projects with suppliers. - liaise and align with Sourcing and Product Quality throughout the supplier development lifecycle.

  • Close collaboration and an aligned vision are pillars for success. SDEs are expected to consult and inform SQEs and Strategic Sourcing with regular cadence, and to consult Engineering and Lean Enterprise.

  • Conduct data-driven quality assurance planning. - Leverage predictive insights and translate them into action. - Identify opportunities to use data to improve.

  • Supplier Development Engineers support our customers by managing development projects at our suppliers. SDEs are not responsible for tactical, daily plant support regarding quality issues, non-conforming material, MRB, PPAP documentation, or recurring surveillance audits. SDEs may be consultants or support for NPI projects.

  • You will typically work independently and provide guidance in Supplier Quality Assessment and Audit, Supplier Quality Risk Management, Process Control Evaluation/Approval, Part Qualification Process, Regulatory Interpretation, Understand Policy and procedures. Additional areas may include; Cybersecurity (cybersecurity aspects of product and production -> software/intelligent devices SQE), Cybersecurity (HW SQE), Industry Standards (e.g., PCB, ISO 9001), Augmented Reality Tools, Quality Audit (Supplier Qualification and Approval), Process Control (Supplier design), Risk Remediation (reactive)

  • Typically provide technical guidance.) Risk Management is preventative and includes methods such as DFMEA and PFMEA. Measurement Systems Analysis involves both lagging and leading indicators. Process Capability Analysis is another important area. Process Control Design is also crucial. Additionally, (Cyber)security is important, when interpreting standards like ISA/IEC62443.
