About this role

If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential - whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or an exciting new direction, we offer opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

We’re one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with a network that covers more than 50 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.

We are seeking a Technical Lead – API to join the newly formed CTO Developer Platforms, Standards and Controls team.

You’ll be the technical lead across a new product that helps teams inventory their APIs, see compliance against HSBC API standards, and access compliant designs to support delivery. You’ll also integrate, evolve and streamline the product’s associated applications into a coherent end-to-end user journey for our customers.

As an HSBC employee in the UK, you’ll have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.

In this role you will:

  • Be a proactive, collaborative and inquisitive member of the Standards and Controls leadership team
  • Act as a key technical leader, overseeing delivery from inception to completion
  • Shape and refine the bank’s API standards, gathering customer feedback and iterating
  • Explore AI opportunities (e.g., AI review feedback integrated into standards assessments)
  • Lead/facilitate product planning and prioritisation aligned to the future vision for API standards and tooling
  • Align and communicate product roadmaps with customers at the centre of change
  • Champion the use of data and metrics to understand and improve customer outcomes
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to development teams; ensure best practices and continuous learning

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Extensive hands-on software development experience across multiple languages/frameworks
  • Strong grounding in software fundamentals: design patterns, data structures, algorithms, architecture
  • Experience applying AI to software development patterns/processes to improve delivery at scale
  • Proven leadership skills (guiding teams, creating a productive environment)
  • Product/project management capability (planning, resourcing, delivery)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for complex technical challenges
  • Experience working in a control environment or with Technology controls
  • Experience working in a global organisation with distributed teams and strong collaboration skills
