Overview

The Technical Lead for Reactor and Fuel Channel Analysis provides technical leadership for CANDU 6 retube projects, ensuring the delivery of high-quality engineering solutions through effective scope definition, schedule management, and the preparation of certified engineering deliverables. The role is responsible for guiding and mentoring engineering staff, serving as the Discipline Lead (DL), and certifying work in in accordance with the requirements of ASME BPVC Section III, Appendix 23.

Your role

Technical Leadership & Certification:

• Lead the Reactor and Fuel Channel Analysis team for CANDU 6 retube projects.
• Serve as the Technical Lead for stress analysis of nuclear pressure boundary components, providing technical direction and oversight for complex engineering activities.
• Review, verify, and certify engineering deliverables, including calculations, design documents, and analysis reports, in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and quality requirements.
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and problem resolution support to engineering staff while ensuring compliance with project, regulatory, and customer requirements.

Scope, Schedule & Task Leadership:

• Support the definition of engineering scope, task breakdown, and schedules for assigned analysis work.
• Lead technical tasks to ensure alignment with project milestones, quality requirements, and regulatory expectations.
• Support the identification and mitigation of technical risks that may impact cost, quality, or schedule.

Structural & Stress Analysis:

• Lead and support stress and structural analysis for fuel channel components (pressure tubes, end fittings, rolled joints, feeder couplings).
• Ensure analyses comply with CSA N285.0 and ASME Section III requirements.
• Review and validate loading cases, assumptions, and analysis methodologies.
• Demonstrate full competency in ANSYS APDL, including finite element model development, scripting, load application, nonlinear analysis, result interpretation, and validation of structural and stress analyses for nuclear components.

Mentorship & Team Development:

• Mentor and guide junior and intermediate engineers, providing technical oversight and developmental support.
• Promote consistent application of engineering standards, best practices, and lessons learned.
• Foster a culture of quality, technical rigor, and collaboration.

Coordination & Interface:

• Interface with clients, stakeholders, suppliers, and internal engineering disciplines.
• Participate in design reviews, technical meetings, and document verifications.
• Communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.

About you

• Master’s or PhD in Mechanical Engineering strongly preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Nuclear, or related Engineering discipline required.
• 10+ years of relevant engineering experience, preferably within the nuclear industry.
• Experience with CANDU reactor systems and fuel channel components is a strong asset.
• Demonstrated experience performing Design Lead and technical review roles.
• ASME Appendix 23 certification (or eligibility) required.
• Strong knowledge of CSA N285 and ASME Section III codes and standards.
• Proven technical leadership, mentoring, and engineering judgment.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
• Self‑motivated, quality‑focused, and able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
