Technical Operations Co-op

Position Overview: 

Beam is seeking a highly talented and motivated engineering or science student interested in a career in biopharmaceutical manufacturing to join our Technical Operations team from January through June 2027 as a co-op.  The Technical Operations co-op will be responsible for supporting the cross-functional validation teams that demonstrate newly developed gene editing equipment and manufacturing processes work as intended by Beam and as required by government agencies (including FDA) for the benefit of patients. Support activities will include learning about and obtaining scientific/ technical information related to manufacturing equipment and processes to ensure integrity of data included in Technical Operations protocols and reports. As a part of these cross-functional teams, the candidate will have the opportunity to interact with various functions involved with supporting the biopharmaceutical manufacturing industry, including R&D (process and analytical development), Manufacturing, Manufacturing Sciences and Technology (MSAT), Quality (both Quality Control and Quality Assurance), Supply Chain, and Procurement to help the candidate explore potential career options in the biopharmaceutical manufacturing industry.   

Responsibilities: 

• Develop an understanding of Beam’s gene editing manufacturing equipment, technologies, and processes supporting both hematology and liver programs.
• Review and verify technical and scientific data included in risk assessments, protocols, and reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, and data integrity in support of project timelines and milestones.
• Communicate findings, recommendations, and any identified issues from verification activities to cross-functional teams through written summaries, presentations, and verbal updates, supporting timely resolution and project milestones.
• Support the evaluation and documentation of manufacturing process data, ensuring records are accurate, attributable, legible, and compliant, while identifying potential issues and recommending solutions. 

Qualifications:

• Undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD in Engineering (Chemical, Biological, Mechanical) or the Biological Sciences (Biochemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related field), required.
• Experience using Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio, and retrieving scientific or technical information from digital sources (e.g., databases and scientific literature), required.
• Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, required.
• Experience with technical writing and developing presentations to summarize and communicate scientific or technical information, preferred.
• This role follows a hybrid work schedule and requires onsite attendance 4-5 days per week.
• Applicants must be currently enrolled in a degree-granting college or university program and maintain their student status throughout the duration of the internship to be eligible.
