Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £24,552 and £26,754 per annum DOE and Qualifications, 27 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, People’s Pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 52 weeks per year

About the role:

We are currently seeking a Technician in Plumbing to join our Construction department at The Bedford College Group.

As a Technician, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

• Workshop Management & Professional Standards - Create and maintain professional, industry-relevant workshop environments, ensuring facilities, machinery, tools and resources are secure, serviceable and prepared to support a consistently high-quality student experience.
• Stock, Budget & ResourceManagement - Manage consumable stock, inventories, equipment and purchasing processes, monitor expenditure against budgets, minimise waste, and ensure materials and resources are available for practical delivery.
• Practical Delivery & Learner Support - Support Lecturers and Trainers across Built Environment and Sustainable Development workshops, prepare practical activities and teaching aids, provide guidance to learners, and lead or cover practical delivery when required.
• Health, Safety & Workshop Compliance - Maintain safe, clean and hazard-free workshops, ensure compliance with relevant safety regulations, undertake risk and COSHH assessments, manage site security, and address student conduct in line with College procedures.
• Safeguarding, Collaboration & Professional Development - Build positive professional relationships with learners and colleagues, support wider Construction and engagement activities, and promote safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion, health and safety, and ongoing professional development.

About you:

• Construction Qualifications & Industry Experience - Holds a relevant Construction or Building Services trade diploma, supported by practical construction industry experience and knowledge of current industry practices.
• Workshop, Equipment & Resource Skills - Able to maintain stock inventories, order materials, prepare and repair tools and equipment, maintain accurate records, and use standard IT software to support effective workshop operations.
• Health, Safety & Technical Knowledge - Demonstrates strong knowledge of safe working practices involving tools, machinery and COSHH, with a commitment to health and safety and willingness to achieve First Aid and forklift qualifications.
• Learner Support, Communication & Teamwork - Builds positive professional relationships with learners, supports their achievement and progression, communicates confidently, and contributes effectively to a welcoming, collaborative and high-quality learning environment.
• Professionalism, Flexibility & Safeguarding - Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision, while upholding College values, safeguarding and professional boundaries, continuously developing skills and qualifications, and working flexibly across College locations as required.
