About this role

The Tool & Die Maker constructs and repairs jigs, fixtures, cutting tools, gauges, or metal dies or molds used in shaping or forming metal or non-metallic material (e.g. plastic, plaster, rubber, glass).

  • Plan and lay out work according to models, blueprints, drawings, or other written or oral specifications.
  • Select and use appropriate materials, tools, and processes required to complete tasks based on understanding of the working properties of common metals and alloys.
  • Make necessary shop computations
  • Set up and operate various machine tools and related equipment.
  • Using various Tool and Die Maker's hand tools and precision measuring instrument, work to very close tolerances, heat-treating metal parts and finished tools and dies to achieve required qualities, and fitting and assembling parts to prescribed tolerances and allowances. 
  • Perform additional duties as requested.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Knowledge of the working properties of the common metals, selecting standard materials, parts, and equipment required for this work.
  • Basic knowledge of various computer applications such as Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Excel, Word, Power Point, and Outlook).
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work well as a member of a team.
  • Ability to conduct oneself professionally through appearance and conduct.
  • Requires training in machine shop and tool room practices including courses such as blueprint reading, technical drafting, metalworking, or machine tooling; usually acquired through formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience; a certificate program from trade, vocational school or equivalent is acceptable.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of work experience.
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ recent experience related to Tool & Die Making
  • Work experience with CNC software and programming, determining correct machine setup, understanding blueprints and detail fabrication tolerances, able to evaluate product quality.
  • Must have higher education to include courses such as blueprint reading, technical drafting, metalworking, or machine tooling.
  • Previous aviation experience on fabrication of aircraft critical structural components.
  • Must be able to type using a standard keyboard to communicate through e-mail and software applications.
  • Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods throughout the day.
  • Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands.
  • Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.
  • Must be able to lift heavy objects whose weight may exceed 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to pass a Respirator Physical and Fit Test qualification.
  • Must be able to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, forklift, etc.
  • Must be able to lift/push/pull minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Will be required to handle dirty parts and lubricants.
  • Will be required to wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Requires training in machine shop and tool room practices including courses such as blueprint reading, technical drafting, metalworking, or machine tooling; usually acquired through formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience; a certificate program from trade, vocational school or equivalent is acceptable.
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Must provide own tools/toolbox. Recruiters will provide toolbox requirements to candidates upon selection. Minimum tool list and compliance of toolbox must be completed prior to start date.

Clearance Requirements:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI(T1) Public Trust Security Clearance. Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization to work at this facility.

Preferred/Physical Qualifications:

  • May work in warehouse or outside where it is drafty, noisy, and dirty.
  • May be exposed to extreme noise from operating equipment (turbine and jet engine aircraft).
  • May be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts or vehicles or aircraft.
  • May work in Aircraft maintenance hangar or outside.
  • May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure.
  • May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles.

       

Compensation Details:

USD: $31.77
