Job Description

The Underground Electrician aims to repair and maintain associated surface fixed equipment and underground infrastructure equipment.

1. Daily Tasks

• Install, maintain, inspect, and repair underground electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, communication, and control systems
• Troubleshoot electrical faults on fixed plant and mobile mining equipment
• Perform preventative maintenance and inspections to minimize downtime and improve reliability
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, drawings, and manuals
• Install and maintain substations, switchgear, transformers, VFDs, and motor control systems

2. Safety

• Safely work on low, medium, and high-voltage systems in accordance with site procedures and legislation
• Conduct lockout/tagout (LOTO), grounding, and testing procedures
• Identify electrical hazards and participate in risk assessments and job hazard analyses (JHAs)
•  Accurately complete work orders, inspection reports, and maintenance records
• Respond to breakdowns and emergency repairs as required
• Follow all MSHA/OSHA regulations, site safety policies, and electrical codes
• Maintain a strong focus on personal safety, coworker safety, and equipment protection

3. Teamwork

• Work closely with maintenance, operations, and engineering teams to support production goals
• Participate in safety meetings, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications

• On-the-job experience and vocational training
• Must adhere to the OceanaGold Code of Conduct
• Journeyman Electrician certification or equivalent trade qualification
• Minimum 10 years of experience as an electrician, preferably in underground mining or heavy industrial environments
• Strong knowledge of underground mining electrical systems and regulations
• Experience with medium-voltage systems, PLCs, VFDs, and mining mobile equipment preferred
• Ability to work in confined spaces and physically demanding underground conditions
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Electrical diagnostics and fault finding
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong communication and documentation skills
• Mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
• Commitment to safety, reliability, and continuous improvement

Knowledge & Core Functional Competencies:

To ensure compliance with Haile Gold Mine electrical safety standards, all electricians are required to successfully complete the following training and certifications as a condition of continued employment:

• CPR, AED, and Live Voltage Rescue (2 hours)
• Low Voltage Worker Training (8 hours)
• High Voltage Worker Training (8 hours) – required for electricians working on systems greater than 1,000 volts
• Low Voltage Induction (3 hours)
• High Voltage Induction (3 hours) – required for electricians working on systems greater than 1,000 volts
• NEC Awareness Online Training (10 hours)
• HGM Authorized Isolator Training

Hiring Requirement: These certifications are not required at the time of hire.

Employment Requirement: Successful completion of all applicable training and certifications is required to maintain employment in the Electrician position. The employer will provide and fund all required training and certification programs.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to work in both office and operational mining environments.
• Ability to regularly access active mining and processing areas to support operational teams, conduct site visits, investigations, coaching, and workforce engagement activities.
• Ability to walk on uneven terrain, climb stairs and access elevated work areas as required.
• Ability to wear and use mandatory personal protective equipment (PPE).
