Position Purpose

Under frequent supervision, gain a broad understanding of the RLI business through real-world insurance experience and on-the-job training. You will support the underwriting, risk management, and operations functions with a primary focus on design and miscellaneous professional liability.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

• Collaborate and work closely with staff to assist the underwriting, risk management, operational, and support teams across RLI.

• Analyze and interpret data from various sources to support underwriting and operational processes.

• Participate in underwriting process via preparing quotes, attending department meetings, and working across business units to collect and organize information.

• Complete project-based assignments as assigned.

• Participate in RLI Summer Internship program which is coordinated by our home office. All interns will have the opportunity to travel to our home office in Peoria, IL to network with interns from across the country and meet with and present to RLI leadership.

Education & Experience

Open to all majors. Strong preference toward candidates with a 3.0 GPA or higher.

• Demonstrates strong work ethic.

Internship Pay Rates

When participating in an internship at RLI, salary is determined by the group that is being supported as well as relevant educational factors.

• General Internship: $20/hour

• IT & Underwriting: $22/hour

• Legal: $25/hour

• Actuarial: $22-$28/hour*

*Dependent on number of completed actuarial exams.

• Some internships may require a second-round interview in a similar format to the initial interview.

• Typical intern hours are dependent on the time of year that an individual is working for RLI. 10-15 hours/week during the school year and 30+ hours/week during the summer.
