Veterinary Oncology Technician

Compensation: $35–$45/hour, based on experience and qualifications

VERG Brooklyn is looking for an experienced Veterinary Oncology Technician to join our specialty team.

In this role, you’ll work closely with our Oncology team to care for patients throughout their cancer treatment journey. From assisting with chemotherapy treatments and diagnostic procedures to supporting patients and their families during difficult moments, you’ll play an important role in providing compassionate, high-quality care.

What You’ll Do

As a Veterinary Oncology Technician, you’ll work directly with our Oncology team to support appointments, treatments, procedures, and ongoing patient care.

Your responsibilities may include:

• Assisting oncologists with examinations, diagnostics, procedures, and treatments.
• Preparing patients and safely administering chemotherapy under veterinarian direction and hospital protocols.
• Monitoring patients before, during, and after treatments.
• Performing venipuncture and placing IV catheters.
• Collecting and preparing blood, urine, cytology, and other diagnostic samples.
• Assisting with sedation and anesthesia when needed.
• Calculating, preparing, and administering medications as directed by the veterinarian.
• Maintaining accurate and thorough medical records.
• Following appropriate chemotherapy handling, safety, and disposal protocols.
• Communicating with clients regarding appointments, medications, treatment instructions, and follow-up care within the scope of the technician role.
• Providing compassionate support to patients and their families throughout treatment.
• Maintaining treatment areas, equipment, medications, and supplies.
• Collaborating with other specialty and emergency departments to provide coordinated patient care.
• Helping train and support other team members when needed.

What You Bring

You have experience working as a veterinary technician or assistant and are comfortable providing hands-on patient care in a busy hospital environment. Specialty, oncology, emergency, or referral experience is strongly preferred.

You’re someone who:

• Provides compassionate and attentive patient care.
• Is confident with technical skills such as venipuncture, catheter placement, medication administration, and patient monitoring.
• Understands the importance of accuracy and safety when handling medications and chemotherapy agents.
• Communicates professionally and compassionately with clients and coworkers.
• Stays organized while managing multiple patients and priorities.
• Remains calm and focused in emotionally challenging situations.
• Enjoys collaborating with doctors, technicians, assistants, and other departments.
• Is eager to learn and continue developing their skills in specialty medicine.

Because VERG Brooklyn cares for patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week, scheduling flexibility is important. Available schedules will be discussed during the interview process.
