About this role

Location: Scotland, North East England, Yorkshire or East Midlands
Essential: Minimum 2 years’ professional journalism experience and a full UK driving licence

GB News is looking for an experienced Video Journalist to join our regional news operation, covering stories from across Scotland and the wider UK.

We are specifically looking for candidates who are currently based in Scotland, the North East of England, Yorkshire or the East Midlands and who have a minimum of two years’ professional experience working within journalism or news broadcasting.

You will need to be confident working independently in the field, with support from our News Desk in London, and be capable of taking a story from initial idea through to broadcast and digital publication.

As a national news broadcaster, we want to make regional stories relevant to a national audience while bringing a strong regional perspective to major national stories. You will therefore need to be proactive, have strong editorial judgement and regularly pitch original story ideas for use across GB News platforms.

The role

As a Video Journalist, you will work across television, digital and social media. You will be expected to identify and develop stories, arrange contributors and interviews, film and edit your own material, and deliver content suitable for broadcast and online publication.

You will operate as both a journalist and camera operator, often working independently on location.

You will also be expected to:

  • Research, develop and pitch original news stories.

  • Arrange and conduct interviews and gather material on location.

  • Film and edit high-quality television content independently.

  • Report live on-air across a range of stories, including breaking news and planned coverage.

  • Write, voice and edit television packages.

  • Produce written articles for the GB News website.

  • Create engaging content for social media and other digital platforms.

  • Work closely with the London News Desk while managing stories independently in your region.

  • Respond quickly and confidently to breaking news and changing editorial priorities.

Essential requirements

  • A minimum of two years’ professional experience working within journalism, news broadcasting or a directly comparable news environment.

  • Currently based in Scotland, the North East of England, Yorkshire or the East Midlands.

  • A full UK driving licence and the ability to travel regularly as part of the role.

  • Demonstrable experience of reporting, researching and producing news stories.

  • Experience filming and editing your own video content.

  • Confidence conducting interviews and working independently on location.

  • Strong news judgement and an understanding of what makes a regional story relevant to a national audience.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • The ability to work effectively under pressure and respond to breaking news.

  • The right to work in the UK.

Experience of live television reporting, producing broadcast packages and working as a self-shooting journalist would be particularly advantageous.

About You

You will be a proactive and confident journalist who does not wait for stories to come to you. You should be comfortable developing your own contacts, finding original stories and pitching ideas to the News Desk.
You will need to be equally comfortable working independently in the field and collaborating with colleagues across the wider newsroom.

In addition, you will:

  • Be an ambassador for GB News.

  • Be committed to the health and safety of yourself and others in the workplace.

  • Be committed to the equality and diversity values of GB News.

  • Undertake other appropriate duties as required.

If you are an experienced journalist who can find, film, report and deliver stories independently and want to contribute regional journalism to a national news audience, we would like to hear from you.
