Who We Are

The Department of Urban and Environmental Studies at Loyola Marymount University (LMU), a Carnegie-classified R2 institution in the mainstream of American Catholic higher education, seeks applicants for a one-semester (Spring 2027) Visiting Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies who value its mission and share its commitment to inclusive excellence and the building of a just society. This position is a one-semester (Spring 2027) full-time appointment with a 3-course teaching load. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in environmental studies, geography or a closely related social science field by the position start date of January 2027. Position Responsibilities

The Department of Urban and Environmental Studies at Loyola Marymount University invites applications for a one-semester (Spring 2027) Visiting Assistant Professor position in Environmental Studies, beginning January 2027. The successful candidate will teach EVST 1000 Introduction to Environmental Studies; EVST 3998 Race, Body, and Environment; and a First-Year Seminar (FFYS 1000) based on the candidate’s expertise.

Our department values collaborative, interdisciplinary, and community-engaged approaches to teaching and research. We seek candidates who are excited to teach and mentor a diverse student body in Los Angeles and who will contribute to LMU's teacher-scholar model through excellent undergraduate teaching.
