Position Start Date: December 1, 2026

Required Degree: 

BS in Family and Consumer Sciences Education with 15 years teaching Family and Consumer Sciences or an MS or M.Ed in Family and Consumer Sciences Education, Education, Curriculum or related degree.

The required degree must be completed by the start date. 

Experience: 

• Highly knowledgeable in sewing techniques, including garment construction and technical skills.
• In-depth knowledge of sustainability in fashion, including principles of circular design, responsible sourcing, and sustainable production practices.
• Ability to integrate social science concepts into teaching, such as the psychology of clothing, consumer behavior, and societal impacts on fashion evolution.
• Commitment to fostering creativity, critical thinking, and ethical practices in fashion education.
• Familiarity with media necessary to teach innovative and engaging lessons
• Ability to write curriculum; purchase fabrics
• Execute and manage sewing labs
• Ability to supervise student lab assistants.

Duties/Expectations: 

• Teach assigned clothing construction classes that are on campus, blended or online.
• May be Day or Evening classes
• Work under the direction of full-time faculty in apparel and textiles along with the director of the FCS program.
• Work with the sewing lab manager
• Help with the functions of the BYU sewing labs
• Responsive to students
• Grading with substantive feedback within 7 days
• Setting up for class
• Cleaning up after class
• Comfortable with technology
• Imaginative about using online formats in new ways
• Passionate about connecting with students
• Organized and careful about time management
• Devoted to learning
• Attentive to details
• Excellent at oral and written communication
• Able to teach in different modalities
• Other duties may be assigned as needed including curriculum updates and attending some meetings.

• This position is stipulated and annually reviewed for funding availability.
