Role summary

The Finance Assistant supports the Finance Manager and wider finance team in the day-to-day financial operations of the business with a primary focus on core transactional responsibilities, the role offers the opportunity to contribute to process improvements, reduce manual activities, and support a more efficient and value-driven finance function.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who is not only detail-oriented but also proactive, with the confidence to challenge existing processes and suggest practical improvements.

Requirements

Accounts Payable

  • Process supplier invoices accurately and efficiently, ensuring payments are made within agreed timescales
  • Match invoices to purchase orders and work with colleagues and suppliers to resolve discrepancies
  • Build strong working relationships with suppliers, responding to queries and resolving issues promptly
  • Prepare and process payment runs in line with agreed controls and company policies
  • Ensure invoices are accurately coded and recorded within the finance system, maintaining reliable financial information

Month-End & Financial Support

  • Support the month-end close, including preparing and posting journals such as accruals and prepayments
  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations, investigating and resolving variances where required
  • Help maintain accurate financial records, ensuring transactions are supported by a clear audit trail
  • Support the preparation of financial information and reports for the wider business

Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Support month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring financial information is accurate, complete and delivered on time
  • Assist with maintaining the general ledger and producing accurate financial statements in line with accounting standards and regulatory requirements
  • Carry out balance sheet reconciliations and investigate differences to maintain the integrity of financial information
  • Maintain tax-sensitive nominal accounts and support the preparation of corporate tax return packs
  • Support cash reconciliations, cashflow reporting and the accurate processing of interest payments

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Work closely with the Finance Systems Improvement Manager to identify opportunities for automation and reduce unnecessary manual processes
  • Challenge existing ways of working and identify practical improvements that make finance processes more efficient and effective
  • Support the introduction of new systems, controls and processes across the finance function
  • Look for ways to improve the accuracy, consistency and usefulness of financial information
  • Share ideas and work collaboratively across the finance team to continually improve how we work
