In our optimized CIP Platform, CIP Terra Technologies – a project delivery company delivering projects from onshore wind, solar PV and battery energy storage systems, to bioenergy, thermal and transmission infrastructure – is currently seeking a Business Case Manager to join our team in Melbourne, although candidates located in Sydney, Brisbane, or Newcastle, Australia will also be considered.
Team
The selected candidate will become part of the growing CIPTT team with offices across Melbourne, Newcastle, Sydney & Brisbane. Regular travel between offices may be required. The team currently consists of ~25 employees with renewable energy backgrounds. The CIPTT team in Australia is delivering some of the largest renewable energy projects in Australia across BESS, onshore wind and pumped hydro.
Role
We are looking for a Business Case Manager to own the business case workstream across CIPTT’s Australian portfolio of renewable energy projects, throughout the project life cycle. The role reports to the Project Commercial Director. The role will preferably be based in Melbourne, with Sydney, Brisbane or Newcastle also possible.
The role owns the development, maintenance and quality assurance of the projects’ financial models and assumptions books, ensuring that financial assumptions are consistent, traceable and reflected in reporting to CIP, investors and financing parties. The role is central to the projects’ financing workstreams, including debt raise processes and lender model requirements, and provides the analysis that underpins investment and commercial decision-making. The role offers exposure across the full project lifecycle – from development through FID and financing – working directly with CIP investment teams on some of Australia’s largest renewable energy projects.

The Business Case Manager is responsible for the integrity of the business cases across the portfolio, including the financial models, assumptions books, business case metrics and scenario analysis, and the financial analysis supporting financing, offtake and commercial decisions. The responsibilities include:
Business Case & Financial Modelling:
- Develop, Own and maintain project financial models to best-practice standards, ensuring model integrity, documentation, version control and auditability
- Own the assumptions books; establish robust processes to ensure consistency, traceability and governance of economic, financial and technical assumptions compiled from cross-functional teams
- Maintain and report key business case metrics (e.g. IRR, GAV, MOIC, DSCR); run scenarios and sensitivities to quantify upsides and downside risks
- Support the valuation / Fair Value process, including reporting of financial assumptions to CIP valuation and investment teams
Financing:
- Support debt raise and refinancing processes, including preparation and maintenance of the lender / banking case models, term sheet analysis and financier due diligence
- Model debt facilities, drawdowns, equity funding and liquidity requirements in line with financing structures and funding plans
Commercial Analysis:
- Assess and report the business case impact of project assumptions including, Capital and Operational costs, macroeconomic and electricity market developments, Offtake structures
- Provide financial analysis to support commercial negotiations, contract decisions and value-creation initiatives
Reporting & Stakeholder Interface:
- Prepare high-quality presentation and decision materials for project leadership, boards and investment committees, communicating complex analysis in a clear and simple way
- Coordinate with CIP finance, valuation and investment teams on reporting standards, requirements and timelines
- Support interfaces with lenders, financial advisors and auditors, including information requests and model queries
You
We are looking for an experienced individual holding a relevant degree (finance, commerce, economics or engineering preferred) with a minimum of 6 years of full-time experience in project finance, investment banking, infrastructure investment funds or corporate development in the energy sector. A CFA charter is preferred. Renewable energy experience will be viewed positively.
We look for the following in a candidate:
- Demonstrated experience in debt raise processes and project finance modelling, including lender / banking case models
- Demonstrated experience developing and reviewing financial models used for investment, valuation and project financing decisions
- Direct participation in at least one project financing through to financial close
- Advanced financial modelling capability including designing, building, reviewing and quality controlling complex project and lender financial models to institutional and lender standards
- Solid commercial and financial acumen with a solid understanding of the key value drivers of a renewable energy project
- Fluent in PowerPoint, with a demonstrated ability to communicate complex analysis in a clear and simple way to stakeholders at all levels of seniority
- The ability to work with minimal supervision with a results-oriented approach and willingness to collaborate across teams to deliver the required results
