About this role

Footprint is looking for a CMM Operator/Programmer to join our team and play a critical role in ensuring the dimensional accuracy and quality of our products. This is a hands-on opportunity for an experienced metrology professional who enjoys working with advanced measurement equipment, solving technical problems, and partnering with Engineering, Quality, R&D, and Manufacturing teams.

In this role, you will operate and program Hexagon Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), develop and modify inspection programs, perform dimensional inspections, and analyze measurement data to support new product development and manufacturing.

What You'll Do

CMM Operation & Programming

  • Operate Hexagon CMM equipment to perform accurate and repeatable dimensional inspections.
  • Create, modify, maintain, and execute CMM inspection programs using PC-DMIS and applicable software.
  • Set up parts, fixtures, probes, and equipment for inspection.
  • Perform first article, in-process, final, prototype, and investigative inspections.
  • Verify products and components against engineering drawings, CAD models, specifications, and GD&T requirements.
  • Troubleshoot CMM programming, measurement, and equipment issues.

Inspection & Data Analysis

  • Review and analyze dimensional inspection results and identify deviations, trends, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Prepare inspection reports and communicate results to Engineering, Quality, R&D, and Manufacturing.
  • Support root-cause investigations and corrective actions related to dimensional and quality issues.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records, CMM programs, and technical documentation.
  • Ensure inspection activities are performed consistently and in accordance with established procedures.

Equipment & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain CMM equipment, fixtures, probes, and related measurement tools in proper working condition.
  • Support equipment calibration and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve inspection methods, programming efficiency, measurement accuracy, and repeatability.
  • Work with instrument vendors to troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate service, repairs, and preventative maintenance.
  • Follow all applicable quality, safety, and laboratory procedures.

Requirements

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3–5 years of relevant CMM/metrology experience.
  • Working knowledge of Hexagon CMM equipment and PC-DMIS software.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and 3D/CAD models.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience collecting measurement data and maintaining accurate inspection records.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Proficient in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree or technical certification in Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering Technology, Metrology, or a related field.
  • Experience with AS-9102 First Article Inspection requirements.
  • Experience using precision measurement equipment such as calipers, micrometers, indicators, and height gauges.
  • Experience creating CMM programs using PC-DMIS.
  • Experience with JMP, Spectra Libraries, or other data analysis/database systems.
  • Experience in packaging, molded fiber, plastics, tooling, or a related manufacturing environment.
