About this role

We are currently partnering with a brand new regional health service in Southern NSW to recruit a Consultant Paediatrician for a rare opportunity to join a growing coastal paediatric service during a major period of expansion and redevelopment.

This is a unique chance to become part of a project and help shape paediatric services within a modern, purpose-built healthcare facility designed to support the region for decades to come.

Located approximately 4 hours south of Sydney and within reach of Canberra, this position offers the type of lifestyle many doctors are searching for - meaningful clinical work, strong team support, and the ability to genuinely enjoy life outside the hospital.

The Opportunity

The successful candidate will provide a broad scope of general paediatric care across:

  • Acute inpatient paediatrics
  • Neonatal care
  • Outpatient paediatric services
  • Developmental and behavioural paediatrics
  • Outreach clinics across surrounding coastal communities

You will also play an important role in:

  • Teaching and supervision of junior medical staff
  • Clinical leadership and service development
  • Building paediatric services within a growing regional network
  • Participating in a shared 1:4 on-call roster with telehealth support across the coastal network

This role would suit someone who enjoys a varied scope of practice and would like to have genuine input into the development of regional paediatric services.

About the Hospital

The position will initially commence within the current hospital service before transitioning into a newly developed regional referral hospital currently under construction.

The new facility will include:

  • Emergency Department
  • Intensive Care / Close Observation Unit
  • Surgical theatres and day surgery
  • Expanded medical imaging including MRI
  • Special Care Nursery
  • Dedicated paediatric and maternity services
  • Mental health services
  • Modern education and simulation facilities

The hospital is being designed around contemporary patient-centred models of care and will become a major healthcare hub for the surrounding coastal region.

Why This Location Stands Out

This part of Southern NSW offers one of the most balanced lifestyles in Australia.

You can finish work and be at the beach within minutes. The coastline is known for its stunning ocean views, relaxed towns, national parks, fresh seafood, fishing, surfing, kayaking and walking trails. The pace of life is slower, the community is welcoming, and housing remains significantly more affordable than Sydney or Melbourne.

For families, the area offers excellent schooling options, safe communities and a genuine sense of work-life balance that can be difficult to find in larger cities.

Another major advantage is the location itself — while you are based on the coast, the Snowy Mountains are still accessible for weekend trips, skiing, hiking, mountain biking and alpine escapes. It is a rare opportunity to enjoy both coastal and mountain lifestyles within the same region.

The area continues to attract clinicians looking to step away from major metropolitan pressure while still maintaining a rewarding and diverse clinical practice.

Requirements

To be considered, applicants should hold:

  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent
  • Eligibility for specialist registration in Australia
  • Experience in general paediatrics including acute and neonatal care

Doctors nearing completion of training are also encouraged to apply.

Salary & Benefits

  • Competitive Staff Specialist package as per NSW Health Award
  • Relocation assistance available
  • Salary packaging options
  • Professional development support
  • Supportive multidisciplinary team
  • Modern hospital infrastructure
  • Excellent lifestyle and work-life balance
