Director of Marketing & Communications - Montage Big Sky

Position Summary

The Director of Marketing & Communications is responsible for leading the strategic development, execution, and oversight of all marketing, public relations, communications, brand partnerships, social media, and content initiatives for Montage Big Sky. This role serves as a key leader within the resort, partnering closely with the Director of Sales & Marketing, Executive Committee, and operational department leaders to elevate brand awareness, drive revenue, create differentiated guest experiences, and strengthen Montage Big Sky's position as the premier luxury mountain destination in North America. This leader will champion innovative programming, compelling storytelling, and strategic partnerships that generate meaningful guest engagement and revenue opportunities across Rooms, Food & Beverage, Spa, Retail, and Residences. A critical focus of the role is cultivating high-impact collaborations with luxury, fashion, lifestyle, wellness, culinary, and experiential brands that align with the Montage brand and attract affluent travelers. The Director of Marketing & Communications will oversee a Marketing Manager and Marketing Coordinator and serve as the primary leader responsible for public relations strategy, destination visibility, seasonal programming, media relations, and brand activation.

Essential Functions

Strategic Marketing & Brand Leadership

  • Develop and execute the resort's annual marketing and communications strategy in alignment with business objectives, revenue goals, and brand standards.
  • Create integrated marketing campaigns that drive awareness, consideration, bookings, ancillary revenue, market share, and guest engagement.
  • Serve as steward of the Montage Big Sky brand, ensuring all communications, partnerships, content, and guest-facing materials reflect luxury brand positioning.
  • Partner closely with Sales, Revenue Management, Operations, and Corporate Brand teams to identify opportunities that drive demand and optimize revenue performance.
  • Track campaign effectiveness and ROI through analytics, reporting, market trends, and competitive intelligence.

Public Relations & Media Strategy

  • Lead all public relations efforts for the resort, serving as primary liaison with agency partners, media, influencers, content creators, and industry stakeholders.
  • Develop and execute proactive national, regional, and destination-focused PR strategies designed to generate high-value earned media.
  • Create compelling story angles and destination narratives that position Montage Big Sky as a year-round luxury destination.
  • Oversee media visits, press trips, influencer stays, executive interviews, and editorial opportunities.
  • Develop crisis communications strategies and support reputation management initiatives when necessary.

Partnerships & Brand Collaborations

  • Identify, negotiate, and execute strategic partnerships with luxury, lifestyle, fashion, wellness, culinary, and experiential brands that enhance guest experiences and generate revenue opportunities.
  • Collaborate with corporate marketing and brand teams to leverage national partnership opportunities.
  • Develop activations that create meaningful brand exposure, guest engagement, and incremental business.
  • Build strong relationships with local and regional organizations, tourism partners, and community stakeholders.

Resort Programming & Experience Development

  • Lead the strategic planning and marketing of seasonal programming initiatives across the resort.
  • Partner proactively with Executive Committee members and department leaders to develop innovative guest experiences aligned with resort objectives.
  • Influence and guide operational teams in advancing programming initiatives despite competing departmental priorities.
  • Facilitate annual programming planning and ensure initiatives support both guest satisfaction and financial performance.
  • Oversee communication, promotion, and execution of key resort events, partnerships, activations, and signature experiences.

Food & Beverage, Spa & Retail Marketing

  • Drive marketing strategy for all resort outlets, ensuring alignment with revenue goals and brand positioning.
  • Partner with culinary leadership to elevate restaurant visibility through media placements, partnerships, events, chef collaborations, and destination experiences.
  • Develop promotional strategies for Spa Montage, retail offerings, wellness programming, and seasonal activations.
  • Identify opportunities to create new revenue-generating experiences through strategic storytelling and integrated marketing support.

Digital Marketing & Content Strategy

  • Oversee website strategy, content management, and ongoing optimization.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Digital Marketing teams on SEO, SEM, paid media, web analytics, and digital campaign planning.
  • Direct social media strategy, content development, influencer partnerships, paid social campaigns, and community engagement.
  • Ensure all digital channels reflect current programming, resort experiences, and brand messaging.
  • Lead content planning, photo and video production, and storytelling initiatives across all marketing channels.

Marketing Communications

  • Direct development and execution of email marketing, CRM campaigns, promotional communications, and digital newsletters.
  • Manage creation of marketing collateral, advertising, presentations, and promotional assets.
  • Ensure consistency of messaging across all guest-facing channels.
  • Support internal communications initiatives and executive messaging when appropriate.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Marketing Manager and Marketing Coordinator.
  • Foster a culture of creativity, accountability, collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
  • Establish department priorities and manage workload to ensure achievement of strategic objectives.
  • Serve as a collaborative partner to resort leadership while effectively influencing cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

Financial Responsibility

  • Develop, manage, and monitor the annual marketing and communications budget.
  • Prioritize investments based on business impact, return on investment, and strategic value.
  • Track and report key performance metrics to leadership.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Hospitality, Business, or related field required.
  • 5-8+ years of progressive experience in luxury hospitality, lifestyle, travel, public relations, or brand marketing.
  • Proven success leading integrated marketing, communications, and PR strategies for luxury brands.
  • Demonstrated experience developing strategic partnerships with lifestyle, fashion, culinary, wellness, luxury, and experiential brands.
  • Strong understanding of luxury consumer behavior and brand positioning.
  • Exceptional media relations and public relations experience with a track record of securing meaningful earned media.
  • Experience creating and executing destination programming, special events, and brand activations.
  • Proven ability to influence senior leaders and gain alignment across departments with competing priorities.
  • Strong leadership experience managing and developing marketing professionals.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and storytelling skills.
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of revenue-driving marketing strategies.
  • Experience with digital marketing, social media, content creation, CRM, and analytics platforms.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and hospitality technology platforms.
