About this role

Urschel, a 100% employee-owned company, is seeking a Health & Safety Specialist to join our Environmental, Health & Safety team. In this role, you'll help foster a culture where safety is a shared responsibility and every employee-owner goes home safely each day. Working alongside employees, supervisors, Engineering, Maintenance, and leadership teams, you'll serve as a trusted resource for machine safety, high-risk work activities, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement efforts. This position is onsite at our corporate headquarters in Chesterton, Indiana.

Urschel employee-owners design and manufacture industrial cutting equipment for food processing and allied industries around the world from our global headquarters located in Chesterton, Indiana, U.S.A. Consumers purchase goods manufactured on Urschel cutting equipment on a daily basis. As our Health & Safety Specialist, you'll spend your time partnering with teams across the organization to identify risks, develop practical solutions, and strengthen our safety culture. You'll lead and support safety programs related to machine guarding, Lockout/Tagout, electrical safety, fall protection, confined spaces, powered industrial trucks, and other high-risk activities. You'll conduct audits, inspections, and hazard assessments, investigate incidents, and help ensure corrective actions are implemented and sustained. You'll also play an important role in employee training, emergency preparedness initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts that make our workplace safer every day.

We're looking for someone who combines technical safety knowledge with a collaborative, people-first approach. The ideal candidate has three or more years of experience supporting health and safety programs in a manufacturing environment, along with a strong understanding of occupational health and safety regulations and their practical application in the workplace. Experience with machine safety, equipment safety, and high-risk activities such as Lockout/Tagout, electrical safety, fall protection, or confined space programs is highly valued. The successful candidate is a proactive problem solver who can balance attention to detail with big-picture thinking, effectively manage multiple priorities, and build strong relationships across all levels of the organization. Strong communication skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, and a continuous improvement mindset are essential for helping employees and leaders identify risks, implement solutions, and strengthen our culture of safety.
