About this role

Title: Manager, Health, Safety & Environment (6-month contract)

Department: Human Resources

Location: 6300 Steeles Ave West, Woodbridge

Work Arrangement: On-site

Total Potential Compensation: $95,000 - $120,000

Position Summary:

The Manager, Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) is an on-site leadership role based at 407 ETR's Woodbridge office who will be reporting to the Director, HSEW, and will be accountable for providing assistance and help with the development and maintenance of the company’s Occupational Health & Safety Management System (OHSMS) and Environmental Management System (EMS).

Note: this role must be available during emergency situations and incidents investigations to meet corporate safety objectives and needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Under the supervision of Director, HSEW, develop and maintain an OHSMS and an EMS based upon the requirements of the IHSA CORTM and ISO 14001 Standards.

  • Lead, supervise and mentor the Advisor, Health & Safety.

  • In collaboration with the Specialist, HSEW oversee HSEW-related committees i.e. Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC), Wellness Committee, The GREEN Team, etc.

  • Conduct monthly inspections and annual management system audits.

  • Ensure regulatory compliance of the corporate HSEW programs such as First Aid, Posting Requirements, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Fire Safety (in collaboration with Facilities), Environmental, etc.

  • Select, manage, supervise, monitor and evaluate HSEW contractors e.g. Biodiversity / Tree Planting, audiometric testing, flu clinic, etc.

  • Implement the corporate Management of Change (MoC) program.

  • Lead incident investigations and assist with WSIB Claims Management.

  • Help generate weekly, monthly, quarterly reports and scorecards.

  • Liaise with external industry associations and/or stakeholders e.g. IHSA, WSPS, the League of Champions, etc.    

  • Fulfil other applicable duties, as required.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma and/or Degree (preferably in a related field) from a recognized institution.

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience.

  • Certification in one or a combination of the following will be considered an asset:

    • IHSA CORTM

    • ISO 45001

    • ISO 14001

    • ISO 9001

  • Project and/or contractor management.

  • Previous experience working with ISO standards.

  • Advanced computer user, including thorough knowledge of the MS Office package.

  • Event scheduling, planning and coordination.

  • Time-management, multitasking, attention to detail, flexibility and the ability to meet deadlines.
